Diesel sound under fuel rail area

Ok..heres the deal.when I start up in the morning, the car runs fine but I hear aslight sound that is similar to adiesel engine under my fuel rail-oil filter area. I am a nazi for maintenace and I cannot figure out what it is!!! i replaced the disa last year, aluminum impellar water pump 30k ago, flushed with new antifreeze early spring, placed my clutch fan back on for summer months, added water wet to radiator fluid, no codes illuminating, new fuel filter in Dec 2010, ..any suggestions would help!!..

Fill your oil all the way up and then add another half quart.

What oil are you using? How old is it?

Damn my buddy went to Tulane- the girlies down there blow away what we have up here. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though- not positive that's your problem.

Oil pan gasket leak huh? Are you sure its not an oil filter housing gasket leak? I just replaced my OFHG yesterday. Not a bad job- remove alternator, unbolt p/s fluid reservoir, 6 bolts for the housing and you are there.

I too use to use 0w-30, but I switched to Motul X-cess 5w-40 for the summer, and maybe the winter too. Interestingly enough the OFHG didn't leak when the oil was less than 2000 miles old or so. I always change it in about 5k miles.

I have not had direct experience with the noise you are describing; but I did read somewhere in the general e46 forum about vanos failure making a diesel rattle like noise. Do a search and you may find a helpful video. Good luck.
