Red face A simple answer please!

Ok, I have searched the forum and Google and have seen conflicting pics and definitions so I'm still not quite sure the difference between pre-facelift and facelift (que the and and the ) I know, I can take it. So let the burning begin!

I just want to be absolutely sure that I know the difference before I pull the trigger on purchasing some mods.

This is my car: pre-facelift or facelift? (I would guess pre-facelift.....yes?)

Ahhh, ok, that's what I was kind of gathering from the pics that I saw, but just wanted to make sure. Thanks! Now off to spend money!

If you look at the turn signals, the pre-facelift has a flat line on the bottom that is essentially parallel to the bumper, and the facelift has the turn signals flat on the top.

Facelift is a happy face, pre-facelift is a frown. Sorta.

I think the easiest way to tell is the position of the side indicator. Pre-facelift the indicator is low. Post-facelift it is up higher on the seam. See the position in this pic of a past-facelift.

What if you don't have side markers at all on your front bumper?

That is irrelevant, only coupes have them. That doesn't determine if it's facelife or pre-facelift.

OP,

Another way to tell for certain is to remove intake and see if you have a cable on the TB. While there, I'm sure you know what to do!

How many miles you have? Before you put a bumper on, I just wanted to make sure you have the car running well...that's my job here; evidently, I'm alone in being attracted to bumper and color threads to make this little non-commercial pronouncement!

It's the Internet; there are people like me on it adding to the noise! Sorry.

As you were!

what does the throttle cable have to do with pre-facelift/facelift on a Coupe? That's M52TU vs M54/M56 engine

Every E46 has sidemarkers. The only thing that would make him ask if it has them or not are the reflectors. That is what I assumed.

Missed that note of yours and the bump...well, if it's not too late...

Shut the **** up, Alex! I'm trying to trick him into doing maintenance is all! Don't ruin it! (Though, cables did stop in 2001 same time as the facelift started, or thereabouts. I think all cable TBs are pre-facelift, but I won't swear to it...again, I'm just trying to get him to make sure he has money for a running BMW, not one sitting in the driveway with one of the issues we have here today!)

Please don't say anything to him...I doubt he made it down this far in my post...few do!

obviously you don't know when the facelift happened on Coupes...maybe you should read the thread for answers.

clue..it wasn't in 2001 or thereabouts.

I'm not searching as I really don't care...OP is long gone! LOL

Besides, I'm perfectly fine with just 'truthiness' when safety isn't involved!
