Seven.

OOPS.

The Xi takes 8 quarts. Sorry for my confusion.

I just changed the oil in my xi- took 7 quarts exactly, but I only had the front wheels on ramps. If I lift the whole car, I need to put in about 7.5 quarts.

I really should not elaborate! But next time you change your oil get 2 solo cups the same size, as your oil drains out please catch a cup full. Then hold empty solo cup under drain and pour full cup back into car. Please let me know if you only get 1/4 of a cup as it flows back out. U know retaining .75 of a quart! Because I am now really curious!

Just stating the facts. I still don't think you understand the concept but I've given up. Do some research

Not all XIs

Here is mine. Which clearly states 6.6 qt capacity. Go figure
6.6 will put me at the mid point on the stick. 7.0 takes it right to the upper mark on mine. There are MANY theories as to why the various figures--from differing oil pans on some to different dip sticks. There have been no solid confirmations as to why from what I have been able to gather.

My 330ci was draining oil for a couple of weeks (since I was doing some repairs, such as oil filter housing gasket, CVV and VANOS). After I am done I put 8 qts of oil in it and only after this I reached proper level of oil (measured 5 min after warmed engine is off).

Right from BMWs site
BMW Electronic Owners Manual
2004 325xi
Page 163

Oddly enough the 2005 325xiT online manual lists the capacity as 7.9

Note also -- The 2005 sedan manuals listed on BMW site are actually E90 manuals

For reference my Pan looks exactly like this one.

I have seen other designs as well like this one from an'01 330xi -- Note the width, I suspect this is the 7.9 Capacity pan

Yeah that's definitely a typo . . . .looks like they switch xi and non-xi capacities.

Either way, you're going to fill using the dipstick as a guide- not some .pdf.

My Ride: 2005 330 XI
My paper manual indicates same capacities as GCoop's. I just completed my FIRST oil change and input 7.5 quarts oil. The oil level is a little above the MAX line. I have been confusing a lots yesterday because Tischer sent the kit with 8 quarts oil (for XI).

I have 2002 330XI.
