Hi Guys,
First off I want to thank everyone who contributes to this forum for the great information. here is my Situation, bought the car second hand and was told this was not an issue, it passed inspection and everything here to get registered. so lights are on and as I have read in other post for possible cause, Battery is good, speed sensors are good (cruise control works). wondering what else can I check, without having to bring it to the dealership, and if I need to get a scan what tool is best, I have a cheap OBDII scanner but I dont get any codes when I hook it up. I am wondering if it is worth fixing (car is 2002 with 200K kms) if it is something major? any suggestions would be much appreciated. |

Bring it to an INDY with a GT1 computer or equivalent.
The Peake tool or OBDII tool won't read some codes like a bad wheel speed sensor (which is probably the issue). |

In my case, the problem was the steering angle sensor. It was a bit of a PITA to replace. I forget how much I paid for the new part. A local INDY charged me $100 to get the code; but they let me bring it back after the repair to initialize (or whatever) the new part for free. Good luck.

I had this exact problem and, for me, it was my ABS/DSC Module that went bad. MSRP is a little over $2,000, but I got it used on eBay for $120 + $25 shipping so I couldn't complain

OP - It IS your ABS/DSC module. Go to an Indy shop and their computer will tell you the exact code.

My girl friend ABS light came on after some front end work and the alignment was out of alignment badly. A fault is set if the steering angle remains out of a preset tolerance after you drive a short distance. A good alignment fixed the problem. If your alignment is good It still may be possible your sensor needs to be reset

I had mine come on last year after I hit a patch of ice. Was the car on some slick roads at all? Next day mine went off and has not come back.

Cruise is off the rear. If you pull the cable off the front right sensor, those lights light. If you have certain types of failures on the front right sensor, 2 of the lights will light. Without hooking it up and reading the codes, you are playing a guessing game of sorts.

I had a very similar problem on my 2002 325Xi. The problem was a bad brake switch. It's a pretty simple replacement. I think the part was around $35. Check out this post http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...967&highlight= to see how your symptoms compare.

I tripped my angle sensor when i redid my axles, I know for a fact the sensor itself is functioning and fine, so would 20 minutes with the battery unplugged to clear the codes do the trick?
