How to obtain title to newly acquired car?
Hello everyone:
I recently acquired a car from an acquaintance of mine. Actually, I didn't know him very well. Actually, I didn't know him. I'm not even sure the car was owned by a "him," since I acquired it by unorthodox means. In any event, I have had the car for about a week now and I've decided I want to keep it for a while. Unfortunately, the unorthodox manner in which I obtained the car did not involve the previous owner providing me with the ownership document to the car, or any other paperwork, or the actual keys to the car. I was forced to obtain keys to the car by unorthodox means. My problem is that when I go to the DMV to register the car they are going to want something called a "title" to the car, and the previous owner did not provide that to me. Because the previous owner is no longer, as we call it, "living," it will be difficult, if not impossible, for me to obtain the PO's signature on any sort of documentation. Can anyone help me with this problem? I don't feel that it's my fault that the previous owner failed to provide me with the appropriate documentation and would like to secure title to this car as soon as is possible. TIA. |

take it to a chop shop, swap out the frame and vin #'s from one in a salvage yard, then register the car.
