That is a nice garage hey, I dont know how this car will end up being cost effective though, deployed air bags all the front end parts, hopefully you got it for a good price haha

Make sure you dont skimp on the paint matching. Get it done professionally and with someone who has experience.

doesn't seem like too much work is needed to get it back on the road from what i can gather.

I'd calculate

Minus labour as he seems to be doing the repair himself but that would have been close to 2.5k for the job

Grill $100
Headlight surround and other front end parts / sensors $200
Fix of Front bar $150
Paint + Clear $100
Rad + radiator support panel $500
Rotors $200
Airbags $800
Module $200
Service $100
Other bits and pieces that pop up $500
Towing to and from the auctions $150
Inspection $400
Rego $400
Stamp Duty + % that went to auctions probably on a $5000 purchase $500

Thats all up $5,000 (without labour)

+ $5,000ish

So doing it alone will get on round for approx 10 - 11K im assuming, with those kms that not a bad purchase but the sourcing of parts and labour etc if you put a dollar value on all that a normal person would get this on the road for 13-14 probably without a spare key and without log books and potential future problems being a bmw

^ pretty sure the headlights look ok and can be reused. But those OEM xenons will cost slightly more than $200 to replace

Good spot haha, it was a rough estimate, didnt look at the pics that in depth, fixed a few cars and know the hidden expenses but if you do the work yourself and are willing to have a car thats on the written off list and without the other stuff then it pays off, the e46 coupes are going down to sub 20 even close to 10 with some models so the amount of youngsters that dont care about log books and vin checks will still purchase if the price is right

I was just looking at pickles and pretty much every car in NSW is a statutory write off (means it can't be registered)!
What the hell is going on over there? So many good cars going to waste

nice analysis, what i was getting at was that there doesn't seem like alot of work to get it back on the road, not the financial feasibility of it. but your correct there are many hidden or unanticipated for cost in these vehicles.

She is finally back on her wheels.
I bought brake pads for the front and rear. But from factory the rear pads were packed wrong so I had 3 outer pads and 1 inner pad . I bought the last box, so I had to wait for new stock to come in, which was annoying.
I bought Bendix brakes by the way. Apparently much better than OEM.

I painted the brake calipers and disks (the part were you can see the rust) a nice silver colour.

I also ordered piano black grilles from Khoalty.

Oh and the bonnet and bumper are most likely going to the paint shop tomorrow .
