Thisssssssss I need a louder siren. 102db doesnt cut it for me.

Just did this. It works, but on 86db its not that loud. I would mayber recommend the 102 if people can find it. I looked in the bins and 90db was the loudest i could find.

I was able to find the 110db but still not loud enough.

ok I am going to sumarize what I am looking for here, there are a lot of people subscribed, hopefully someone can help.

I have the OEM alarm, but the siren is wildly too quiet. I cant hear the chirps unless I am on top of my car. I would like to add an extra siren (a DEI one I have lying around), in addition to the OEM siren. I am making this over complicated a) because I can, and b) because I did something slighltly non-standard when I installed and activated my alarm.

In a normal alarm system, the siren is usually wired in a way that when it is 'triggered' either by alarm or by chirp, the connection is grounded, the circuit is made, and the alarm sounds. (negative trigger). the sound of the alarm is predicted soley on the wiring of the alarm. In this case, any 12v alarm siren can be used. horns, piezos, talkers, etc....Its a very simple basic circuit.

I am concerned that the feeds that everyone is tapping into are not a)drivable - meaning that they wont put out enough current to drive the siren and b) are not actually 12v +/- alarm triggers. I think they send a 'command' to the alarm module that it should trigger. the driver and the internal relays are part of the alarm module.

I think that because there is a setting burried in the car that allows you to switch to intervaltone (interval tone) for the alarm. it changes the siren to a european style tone. I have this enabled, its a riot.

I want to hook up the extra siren using a relay, and would use the two feeds everyone has used to drive the relay, but I dont understand how the signal coming from the car, going to the alarm module could be pure if the tone can be changed. since the GM5 controls the tone, I dont want to overdrive it and burn it out....

no, i did not use a relay. I wired it straight negative- positive.Im begining to think it's too loud. Im considering buying the chime that is used on lexus vehicles to tone it down a bit and keep it classy.

Thanks to the OP for the DIY. I bought the 102db Piezo for under $6 and installed it in about 20 minutes.

It works perfectly!!!!

Note - my 325i already had the blinking clown nose and flashing parking lights activated.

Thanks again to everyone that contributed to this DIY thread - it made my decision to do it...and the job an easy one!

I did it, but it doesn't work... i think i have to get it programmed which sucks!!!

This is just a more simplified process and is just for entertainment.

***UPDATE***

After speaking with a tech at the dealership. They confirm that this will only work with vehicles ARE programed to flash. It usually cost about $60 to have them do it.

Sorry for not putting that info out there sooner.
My vehicle is already programmed to flash the lights and the clown nose. If yours isnt programmed it can be done at the dealer.


List:

T-30 torx
Electronic buzzer- Radio Shack 90dB Piezo Pulse Model: 273-060



Time: 45 minutes easy DIY


Step one:

Remove the twist clips holding down the cover to the cabin air filter. Remove cover and filter.


Step two:
Remove (4) T-30 torx screws holding the filter tray and carefully separate the wire harness from the loom.


Step three:
Remove (2) torx screws holding the protective cover for the blend air box. There is one to the left side by the A/c charging port and the other by the DME.



Step four:
Locate pre-wired alarm siren plug. Usually taped to the left side.



Step five
Locate Black wire w/ Blue stripe far left, bottom hole.
Then locate Brown wire w/ Black stripe left upper hole.

Step six:
Pin the ground wire into the lower left hole.
Pin the positive wire into the upper left hole.


~~~ Test your key.
CAR SHOULD BEEP TWICE TO UNLOCK.
(NOTE) YOU MUST HOLD DOWN THE HOOD TRIGGER TO HEAR IT BEEP ONCE AND LOCK!

Step seven:
After deciding where you want to mount your buzzer mount it down with double-sided tape this is where I mounted mine.
** Switch for a bigger buzzer so that the sound is louder***



Step eight:
Put everything back together and enjoy.
