Steering controls work with A/M head unit?

Can you make the steering wheel controls work with an after market head unit? I love the controls so I'm not Going to get a headunit if I can't...

Yes. You need a PAC swix. Google it. I have one I might sell you if your using it on a pioneer or alpine h/u. Ymmv, I didn't think it worked that well but others have had great success.

What do you mean it didn't work well? Should be it either works or it doesn't right?

You would think. It works by reading the signals coming from the wheel through the k bus. Since its a shared signal with other components, there is a lot of noise. Sometimes it worked great, other times it would act crazy. Like I said, other people have had good luck. There was a pretty big thread on this earlier this year when I installed mine.

SWI-X is a universal adapter, which is probably why it acts up on you. If you get one of the interfaces that is specific to your HeadUnit, it will most likely be more reliable.
