New York based electrical engineer and designer Scott Amron has come up with an idea that could transform the way industries label fruit and vegetables. You may not pay much attention to that fruit sticker on your apple or orange - though often frustrating to remove, it usually just ends up in the trash. However, Amron is a man who has put considerable thought into that sticker, creating the Fruitwash label. Just as the name suggests, the new label dissolves into organic fruit soap that helps remove water-resistant wax, pesticides and fungicides.

"I've always been discontent with fruit labels and felt they could do more than just display product info and be difficult to peel off," Amron told Gizmag. "We buy, wash and eat fruit. So, the wash step was the next thing the label should help with."

Whilst the labels ingredients are currently being kept secret, they are designed to "outlast the fruit they label," says Amron. The process of adding water and rubbing the label triggers the dissolving action, which transforms the label into a fruit wash. Alternatively, the stickers can be peeled off and thrown away.

"[The] best thing is the labels help make the fruit cleaner," says Amron. "And, there's no label to peel off and throw away unless you choose to peel the label off and throw it away."

Amron Experimental is currently selling a 10 percent stake in the Fruitwash Label Intellectual Property (patents) and hopes to bring the labels to market within the next 6-9 months.

^I read about that a few months ago when they were doing testing out in a desert collecting samples. To think that I will probably see the first human set foot on another planet is pretty damn great.

wow, this is amazing. I want that program haha. with a program like that it would totally eliminate the need to survey anything.... this just blew my mind, incorporated in with AutoCad and a GIS program, you could basically manage a city. from a City Planners POV this technology would be the bee's knee's

Hungary and Romania are set to be the next locations for the super lasers. Sources say that each project will specialise in diverse research areas. But all projects will lead to the construction of the fourth super laser, which will have double the power of the three lasers. This fourth super laser will yield up to 200 petawatts per hour, which experts say is the theoretical limit for lasers.

I read that earlier and from what i gathered they're trying to detect what would essentially be hawking radiation.

I thought they were wanting to find virtual particles. Hasn't Hawking radiation already been observed?

Nothing new, but I've never seen the animations outside of a special on TV. 10 years' worth of observations showing evidence of a supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy.

Probably my favorite illustration of anything is the ball bearing/gravity/cosmic foam illustration on Into The Universe. Just cool.

I hate those types of analogies though because they always show deformation in 2D. It took me awhile before I could visualize 3D deformation thanks to years of the "ball spinning on a rubber sheet" analogy. If you like the ball bearing thing though, download Gravilux on your phone. Really cool gravity/vector field visualizer.
