Really want a 2012 Wrangler...Is there something wrong with me?
Ok, I don't really know why, but I am in LOVE with the Wrangler. Now, I fear I may be in love with the "brochure" of the Wrangler (ie, the lifestyle it portrays, great outdoors, unstoppable, etc.)
My stable is currently my s2000, a 2000 Acura RL, and a 2009 CRV EXL. I live in NJ, right outside Manhattan (20 miles out) and commute to work. Due to the finances of these states (probably all states) roads are deteriorating, and every week, they are worse and worse. I've popped 2 brand new tires on the RL, thanks to huge holes on streets, highways, whatever. Currently on my CRV, I have my winter wheels/tires on, and LOVED how they handled bumps, snow, rain, etc etc. The car was basically unstoppable during last year's blizzards. Now, due to all of the above, I have officially sworn off cars. They are just...not enjoyable in these road conditions, so, trucks only for me. I've looked at the MDX (love it), I've looked at the Grand Cherokee Overland (love it) but for some reason, something about this makes me feel like a 10 year old Rambo wannabe. ![]() So, what is wrong with me? I know they aren't that great on gas (although the new Pentastar is supposed to be FAR better,) I know they are not refined, I know they are not smooth, but something about going over anything anywhere is very appealing to me. Maybe after such a long time of owning a car in NY, worrying about every pothole, worrying about people dinging doors, rock chips, etc etc etc, it seems like not giving a crap would finally let me relax lol. Something about steel bumpers and bedliner paint speaks to me. Anyone have any thoughts?

I have owned a few Jeeps, most recently a 2006 Rubicon and I would say go for it. The new pentastar with the refinements on the interior and mild exterior ones really make a difference. They are great, generally are reliable (unknown of pentastar), and have lots of pros. Just be ready for a rough ride, and more road noise than you may be used to. The JK's could be optioned with power windows, lock, and navi, I think even leather so its not too bad.

. I actually don't even care about the "amenities." If anything I would just put in a decent sound system, but that's it. Gonna have to really think about it and try to convince the wife. The weird thing is, she loved the Raptor, so it may not be too tough of a sell.

I love my 4-dr Wrangler! The rugged factor attracted me. That and knowing that I can pretty much drive it in any condition. The gas is terrible but if you don't drive like a dick you will be able to pull 16-17 mpg out of it. The sound system isn't bad for having 2 mids and 2 tweeters. Aaand nothing beats being able to take your top (and doors) off 7 months out of the year.
Edit: I forgot to mention. They are amazing at holding their value. I bought mine brand new because I couldn't justify buying a 2008 with 35k miles for $3,000 less than the value of mine brand new. Now I'm not looking to buy my sister one and can't find a deal Last edited by JTLaz; 11-09-2011 at 05:43 AM. |

Oh trust me I know. A friend of mine bought an 89 (I think) TJ, for 6K, drove it for a year, threw a lift on it, 33" tires, drove it another year, then unloaded it for 8K! I was shocked at how well they hold their value. I heard the new Pentastar will do 20mpg (what I get in my RL now) on the highway no problem, maybe a few less with 33s on it. The Rubicons now come with 400 watt sounds systems too!
P.S. How I wish/pray then stick their 6cyl turbo diesel in the Wrangler Why oh why do they refuse to!http://wot.motortrend.com/chrysler-c...on-127757.html http://dieseldig.com/2010/03/17/not-...angler-diesel/ 35.8MPG ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I would do anything to have a diesel engine in mine right now If you're seriously looking, check out quadratec.com and 4wheelparts.com for ideas on what to do. I should have gotten the base shitty wheels and used the money I was saving to get my own wheels and tires but got the premium wheels instead This is what I would like to have on my wrangler eventually: Safari Bikini Top (have) Duster Cover (have) Snorkel 2 KC HiLites mounted on my windshield Skyjacker 4-5" Economy Lift Kit with Hydro Shocks Black 15" wheels 35" tires I'll take babysteps and get 33" tires first and see how much the gas changes after I chip it to recognize the new tire size. My step-father bought a 1999 Wrangler Sahara. Hard top, automatic transmission, lifted a couple inches, not sure of the tire size, but they're big enough without being ridiculous. It's a blast to drive, no doubt. It's no sports car, but if I see a little hill away from the road, I'll go climb it.

Example: My friend's Land Rover Discovery. We took it out with three passengers (my friend is the one standing on top of it). Had we had a winch, we would have been out of this situation rather quickly. First time he got stuck... ![]() The second time... ![]() ![]() Sorry about the massive pictures.

All good. I honestly don't even know if I will do SERIOUS offroading. Hell, I don't even know if there is any decent off roading around the NYC/North Jersey area. However, they look badass, so I may ***** it out and get one anyway.

I love the rambo jeep, I'd rock that in a second. Jeep really hit a home run with the current styling in my opinion.

Go for it. Just got a 2012 Wrangler Sport S as a weekend fun vehicle. The Pentastar engine catapults the Jeep into the 21st century. And I can't tell you how nice the interior is now.
