Sushi for dessert? Why not? Cake I made...

So, for my wife's, uh, 29th birthday (we'll go with that hehe), I made her a cake to look like sushi (she loves it). Everything is edible. The "cake" is actually fudge brownie. Rice was rolled, grain by grain, from fondant (which is what I used for everything decoration-wise).

Ha. Nobody ate the "sushi." The kids wanted it. I knew better than to give them all that sugar. Hehe. (and actually the fondant she uses - she has a cake business; that's how I had all the tools and supplies - is not very sweet; it's actually rather enjoyable, especially when coupled with cake)

I'm with you on the fondant. Until my wife finally found the one she's using now exclusively, I hated fondant. Most of it is too sweet and crappy tasting. This one is very mild and just adds a bit of sugary taste. I agree that icing is much better, but the results are not the same. If you want good, refined results, fondant is the way to go.

For decorating it's great but I always peel that **** off when I get a slice heh.
