MAF adventures
So I replaced my air filter (OEM Mann) and cleaned the MAF sensor with Gunk MAF Cleaner (couldn't find the CRC stuff in Canada) on Saturday, drove home from the shop (about 6km), no problem whatsoever.
Used the wife's car on Sunday, didn't drive my 330i until Monday morning. Now it was cold overnight, about -3 this morning when I went to start it up, and lo and behold, rough rough idle, limp mode fun.
Disassembled the air box, MAF, hoses, etc. and reassembled (the MAF was a bit skewed, tilting back, not quite flush; now it's nice and flush and the air filter is sitting better), but still limp mode.
Don't have an OBD cable yet, so figured I'd bite the bullet and hit up one of the three indy shops around my place, but nobody could even pull a code they were so busy. At the last place I turned off the car while I was talking to the guy and came back out, started it up, CEL still on (I'm assuming that needs to be cleared or does it clear automatically over time?) but car drives fine; drove around for a good 10-15 minutes up to 80km/hr and felt great.
Think there was a vacuum leak that I sorted out or does the DME/MAF need time to sort itself out that the 6km drive on Saturday was inadequate for?
As for cleaning, I read a good DIY on Linquist.net's site; followed instructions and saturated the whole thing (careful not to touch anything but the outside) and let lay out on paper towel to dry for a good 15-20 minutes while I cleaned up the drip pan fail from the oil change.
