Will a 235 50R18 fit an E46?

I have a 2005 330xi with 225 40R18s. I am tired of dinging my rims and would like to go to a larger sidewall. Will a 235 50R18 fit? I have the standard suspension. If these won't fit, what is the largest tire I can get on 18x8 rims? I want the same tire all the way around. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

90mm sidewall vs 117,5mm.

Just learn to drive in a way to protect your rims, or get 17" rims..

Going to a higher aspect ratio would be foolish. You will hurt performance and fuel economy, render your speedometer and odometer inaccurate, and also introduce the possiblity of rubbing.

If you don't want to ding your rims, don't drive so close to curbs.

do you mean bending your wheels? or curb rash?
if you mean bending either you need to buy nicer wheels or stop driving over boulders.
if you mean curb rash don't drive so close to curbs.
like he said^ a bigger side wall isn't going to help you as much as you think it will.

I do mean bending wheels. Curb rash is not a problem. I am in Eastern TN and there are plenty of "surprise" potholes and hazards. I figured a higher sidewall would give me more protection. I appreciate the comments but does anyone know how big a tire will fit?

bigger sidewall would make your performance better...

My Ride: is parked hard.

Why not get 17's instead? 50 sidewall is going to look ridiculous on an 18.

Hey Zin! Check out my location. I admit the roads have gotten a lot worse after last winter, but c'mon. Are your wheels stock? I could imagine you maybe bending some really cheap ones, but not decent ones or even the stockers. Dodging the big potholes isn't that difficult.

I have good rims on the car. They are bbs lm reps by Miro. I miss most of the pot holes but it only takes one to screw things up. I appreciate everyone encouraging me to miss the potholes but I wish someone would just answer my original question and tell me if the 235 50R18 will fit.

they're going to leave you with the even bigger problem of an inaccurate speedometer

http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires_10.../aspect_ratio/

Quote:
A tire with a lower aspect ratio responds to lateral force more effectively than a tire with a higher aspect ratio. The aspect ratio affects steering stability. Generally, the shorter the sidewall, or the lower the aspect ratio, the less time it takes to transmit the steering input from the wheel to the tread. The result is quicker steering response. Aspect ratio also affects the tread contact patch. As a rule, a low profile tire produces a wider tread contact patch. This wider tread contact patch creates a stiffer footprint that reduces distortion and provides improved cornering traction. Aspect ratio also impacts ride. A low profile tire usually has a stiffer ride than the standard aspect ratio of 75 or more.
Nice try, though. And yeah, it's probably more important to get a nicely-contructed tire with a stiff sidewall versus a cheaply-made low-profile tire.

To answer your question, OP, h3ll no they won't fit, for all the reasons I listed in my first response. If you're bending wheels on the potholes around here, you are not paying enough attention while driving, or your wheels are crap. Sorry.

This thread is a perfect example of why this forum used to be way cooler. Monster truck tires on an e46, lulz.
