Driveline noise
Ok, when above about 20-25mph my car make an abnormal amount of road noise/rumble/whine. It is definitely coming from the rear of the car. I would say it sounds just like worn tires, but its not, they're nearly new. Sound does not change either under acceleration or deceleration, in gear or out of gear. Drive line is solid no vibrations or whatnot.
My thought would be possibly rear wheel bearings, diff, or diff input bearing. Although none seems to fit right symptom wise, and none of these are common fail items. The car has been ESS TS2 for 30k miles, with regular maintenance (Red Line in diff). All the above parts are stock. Total mileage on the car is 95k. Let me know your thoughts, thanks. I've got the same thing. Hear it in the 15-20 mph range and seems to be coming from the rear. Maybe it's a bearing, cv joint or differential?
But, just had my diff out when doing bushings and it seemed ok and changing fluid didn't seem to change the noise so I'm thinking that's not it. I'm not helping much but subscribed for insights from anyone. I've got an auto with 148k. Sent from my EVO |

Its got me for a loss right now. I need to get it up in the air and poke around back there. Just didn't know if there was a common E46 issue.
