OS Giken LSD Owners: Diff Lube?

I was getting ready to order some OS Giken lube and someone said that they have been using Redline MTL in their OS Giken LSD with no trouble whatsoever because it is a lot cheaper. What do ya'll think?
Any particular lube the best value?

Jim

Jim,

This is direct from Turner Motorsport:

"MOTUL 75W-140 GEAR FF Competion LSD Differential Fluid - 1 liter
Part #: MOGRCMP-75W140

This MOTUL SAE 75W140 gearbox and differential fluid is specifically designed for limited slip differential (LSD) applications and some 6 speed gear boxes. We use this fluid in the diff of our championship winning TMS BMW race cars, great for racing use on both the BMW Motorsport LSD and OS GIKEN limited slip units.

Price: $29.95 (USD"

Good luck.

After using a reccomended Castrol oil in my OS Giken I will be re-filling with the proper stuff.
(feels like it is not working as well as it did on the original oil)

OSG says to use 1.5 liters in the non-m carrier with their LSD. I've run nothing but OS-250r in mine.

Same here. It's expensive oil, but I feel more comfortable using it.

Ditto. My pinion bearing is going bad so I need to go through the diff again. I only have 1.2 liters of the OSG fluid left, so the additional .3 liters will be Amsoil 250 gear fluid.

In my case it sounds as if the backlash is set incorrectly. Whining on decel, and light throttle (highway driving). I'm also starting to develop a clunking sound from inside the carrier when it becomes loaded.

I'm getting that same whining noise on decel and highway too. I figured it was because my subframe bushings are poly and that usually makes the diff louder. Lutz Performance did the install last year and the tech seemed to know what he was doing.

The clunking might be because you don't have enough fluid in the diff. I had that same clunking when making turns (at slow speed). I put more fluid in (it was a little low) and the clunking is completely gone now.

I have all poly subframe bushings, it's not the source of the whining noise. Your backlash is incorrect. This is what your R&P likely look like now.

As far as the clunking goes, it was def the pinion bearing. The binding sound you described went away after 3 miles of driving my car with the LSD. I changed the fluid after 400 miles. Always 1.5 liters

Damn. Lutz closed their doors recently too, so it's not like I can go back.

This sucks, idk who in Florida can fix it now.

I only run OSG oil 80-250; always have a couple on my shelf if everyone else is out

have you considered running the TCD? it runs cooler than standard superlok

there is no Fix - its time to source another core to fit the OSG into - that pair of gears is ruined.

Ugh. I'm going to open the diff up today and see what the gears look like. It's almost impossible to find another 3.64 diff...I wonder if anyone sells the ring and pinion gears separately?

the 373 ring and pinion from a e92 non turbo will also fit if you cannot find a 3.64. Gears only are 188k and compatible
any z4 or x3 gearset should also be fair game for your case.
