Navigation update

Has anyone here done a navigation update? Do you have to purchase a DVD or is it something that can be done at the dealer? What's the typical price for an update?

The dealer charges a lot. Just download the image for free from x5world and burn. Insert disc and it'll auto load the new software.

It links me to a site xoutpost.com. Is that the same thing? It just seems like a forum, should I just search for map update? Thanks

Lol went to the website, downloaded v32, burned it, put in in the navi......."CD error" lol. Prolly doing something wrong.

Which generation Nav do you have and which generation update are you attempting to use?

Mk III = CD
Mk IV = DVD

There is a firmware year / version restriction for the E46 Nav.

This may sound stupid but how do I tell? I'm away from my car now so I don't have the owners manual or anything.

What year is your car?

Mk IV was post 2004
Mk III of course pre-2004

I know M3s 2004+ have Mk IV = DVD. But on the site there is no way to know which ones are for MKIV, it only lists ones for Mk3 (CD).

What do below programs do? Do we need to run them to set up voice or something else?

Looks like BMW Navigation OS - v32 (Night Mode, Camera Alerts, M Logo) from http://www.neiloakley.com/ will have all what I need update the firmware. I don't need those files I mentioned as I won't be tweaking voice or POIs.

Now I need to find where to get updated maps from. I found http://www.bmwnav.net/ they sell 2012 maps + updated v32 firmware for $55. Sounds too good to be true as it's a third of buying nav DVD retail. Would you buy that? Or where can I get the maps?

I'm quite positive that the 2010 & 2011 BMW Navigation updates won't work with E46 MkIV units. I think you can use the maps. That was one ofthe reasons I decided not to go with a BMW Navigation update / upgrade and started down the Car PC path until the Dynavin came out.

But check to be absolutely sure. Things have been known to change.

Which Dynavin do you have? I was thinking of building my own (small form PC + Linux+ touch screen + GPS). But don't have the time.

I'm going to order the new D99 once I finish the new house move. Hopefully everything will be completed by the end of February. Then I'll be starting the car audio system upgrade.

Yup, I have perspective mode with night mode on my '05 M3... Looks sweet especially at night.... If you are local to Long Island I could hook you up with the update. Your Nav must have DVD on the box...

hey guys i downloaded the BMW Navigation OS - v32 (Night Mode MK3 Only - MODE2/FORM1) Worked great then i dont know why i put BMW Navigation OS - v32 (Original) and now my nav is frozen i cant get the cd out???? help please...

They never made any update past the v32, unless its a modified version of the v32. You can still get updated map discs but they're no longer made by Navteq, Teleatlis is the new provider. You would have the get the appropriate disc for your nav MKIII= CD Rom disc which is an 8 disc set or MKIV= DVD which is a 2 disc set I believe.

Grab a snickers.. You gotta hold the eject button for about 3 minutes, let go, and press it once and the disc will pop out. It may take a few tries. When I had the MKIV dvd drive (prior to dynavin) it took me almost a half hour one time to get the update disc out.

I made a v32 firmware with an ///M startup screen if anyone in the CT area needs an update let me know
