Thanks to all for the suggestions on moving the gps antenna. I couldn't get a fix anywhere, even after letting it search for 10 minutes. Turns out in the settings menu under locations, you can use wifi to narrow your location. I had to turn that off an re-enable the gps an I got a lock. After work tonight I'm going to attempt to re-enable wifi locating as well to see if it will work w/ it on. Thanks for everyone's help.
On another note, I had the D99 in my sedan, w/ the gps under the dash w/ no locating problems. After moving it to my M3 which had OEM nav, under the dash seems to lose the signal for me rather frequently. Just thought that was odd.

Just an FYI for you guys looking for a GPS location:
With my Sirius Radio I ran the antenna wire from under the hood where the ABS/Brake module sits to the passenger side foot well very easily. The antenna is attached to the top of the cabin filter cover using 3M double sided tape. It sits right below the black plastic grill that's on the hood and reception never drops unless I go in a tunnel. I used this same method on my Tacoma but instead there was a plastic cover between the hood and the windshield.

Does anyone know if the Dynavin uses a passive or active GPS antenna?

I just got a D99 and have done a few bench tests.
I noticed that it runs quite hot - much hotter than the D95/D90 IIRC. Anyone else notice this? |

Probably isn't a fault as such but something that Dynavin should look at. While electronics always generate a certain amount of heat, it should be dissipated in a suitable manner. Excessive heat and electronics are a bad mix. |

I'd say the reason it's getting so hot is that the earlier Dynavins had a small fan at the back to remove some of the heat while the current ones don 't have a fan anymore and rely solely on the heatsink to remove the heat.

One reason for the increased heat may be that the D99 draws at least half an amp more than the D95.If the heat on mine is "normal" then Dynavin should really have fitted a fan to the D99 IMHO. Last edited by podge3; 02-09-2012 at 04:39 PM. |

I have a D90, If I switch the car off whilst in Nav mode, when I come back and re-start the car, it comes back on in Nav mode.
Is the D99 able to do this?? |

No, the D99 units always start on the audio source screen.

Jeff is that for the WinCE version as well, don't they have the 'Start Automically' option in the navi settings?
