Rogue Engineering SSK failure
I've had a RE Octane kit in my 325i for a couple of years now.
Recently, I went to grab reverse and the shifter just went limp.
Fortunately, it stayed in neutral so I was able to get out and push it off the road.
Unfortunately, I was in the middle of nowhere so I had to pay a fortune to get the car towed back home.
Turns out a grub screw at one end of the Weighted Selector Rod worked loose, which meant the linkage pin at that end was only held by a small weld, which eventually failed.
Might be worth checking your grub screws next time you're under the car.
