S54 custom turbo setup
I have started to build my custom turbo setup:
Turbine: Turbonetics GT-K 650 0.68 A/R Intercooler: Godspeed 30x4x12 I/O 3" WG: Synapse Synchronic V-Band 50mm BOV: Synapse Synchronic 50mm Injectors: HPF 750cc ECU: AEM v1 with HPF harness, bought from yelowssm Custom exhaust manifold and intercooler piping (In 3" and 4" out) Custom 4" downpipe and midpipe Stock air box, should hold to 0.5-0.6 Bar I'm waiting for the parts from HPF (injectors + ECU) to arrive and the car will go to the shop for the custom parts. I hope at the end of March, beginning of April the car to be running the streets ![]() Car was running 12.9 on 1/4mile, my target is low 12' or high 11' with FI. I would recommend making a plenum. If you choose to use the stock airbox I have some recommendations for modifying it for boost.

Mike can you give me some tips to reinforce the stock air box?
After I build the engine and boost up I will buy a HPF intake manifold. |

All parts ordered have arrived, at the end of this month the body shop will start the fabrication fo the custom parts.
The car will always be runing on 100 Octane fuel, I have a few questions for turbo gurus on this forum: 1) What is the max boost for HPF stage 1? 2) Should I put water/methanol or not? Is the AEM kit ok? How much boost will this allow? 3) What clutch kit do you recommend? 4) Since Mike did not answer, do you have any tips to reinforce the stock airbox? Thanks |

I would make at least 4 tie bars that go horizontally and vertically inside the plenum. That will minimize the plenum from expanding and breaking at the seams.

For a custom setup why bother buying an ECU from HPF? Your better of running a Vipec so you can control everything and program it yourself.
A 0.68A/R rear is too small for an S54. I ran an 0.82A/R on a GT35 and that was still too small. If you bring boost on too soon you will break ring lands with more than 10 psi in a short time period. If you look at all the HPF cars with stock engines boost comes on after 5000rpm. That's how they keep them living. Would feel lazy though. Just buy a HPF plenum. They are well made, fit well and work. Don't even bother with trying to use the stock plenum. Don't look at the power American cars make on US dynos. You won't make anything near what they make. Aim for around the 400rwhp and you will have it last a while with boost coming on early. If you want to run more boost make sure it only starts coming on boost after 5000rpm which to do you will need a big A/R rear maybe a 1.00A/R or bigger. Or go a bigger turbo around a 800hp rated turbo with a 0.96A/R rear. Then you will most likely see it living with 450+rwhp but it will be lazy coming on boost more like a supercharger.

Not only that US guys and Oz guys need to double check what dyno reading they are looking at from Europe or the UK. A lot of the dynos in these places are setup to spit out a calculated flywheel horsepower as the norm as well instead of just reading the rwhp. I've never understood that cause it's an average guess on driveline losses. Also you need to confirm the gear they are run it. Cause the one in that thread seems to be run in 5th not 4th. There is no way 4th does 250km/h

Its probably easier to relocate the ECU then it is the pump.. however I believe HPF was able to fit both the AEM and the ProEFI behind the ABS unit on the LHD's.. on the RHD is it positioned differently?

I don't want to fit the AEM or ProEFI, I want to fit the 3.5" downpipe
![]() Has anyone repositioned the ABS pump on an LHD M3? |

its doable but its a huge headache dealing with new lines and to extend wiring and everything else, with aftermarket brake lines there is always possibility of breaking and not sealing properly and just problems in a long run,you trying to run top mount or?
