Who has a 4 cyl engine?

The new 2012 528i and 328i both has a 4 cyliner 2.0 litre twin turbo engine, which gives almost 250bhp in europe and slightly less in the US due to higher octane petrol here

528 = 5 series, 2.8L I6
328 = 3 series, 2.8L I6

Not any more, as of 2012. Both cars have 2.0L, 4 cylinder twin turbo engines.

And I must say it is an impressive engine. My mother purchased a '12 528i in December, and it's amazing how well that engine moves such a relatively large and heavy car while returning MPG in the mid to upper 30's on the highway.

I have seen the new 3 series, in person, and drove it already. The frame of this car, is getting worse and worse. We have bolts holding many things down instead of it being welded. The economy is so bad that BMW has to find cheaper ways to change up their cars to maximize profits.

E46 is the best built bmw in my opinion.

What is all this? I circled the areas that I didnt like. Too many bolts I see

That is stupid. I should be called a 520TT or something. Almost every normal model to date tells the engine size.

mainly true. But you are missing the best one, the 323i had a 2.5L engine. True Sleeper car.

bmw stopped making the number correspond with engine size when the e90 came out. eg- the 328i was the 3.0 liter inline six. same with the 528i. and the 550i with the 4.8 liter. basically, the days of number corresponding with engine are long gone, the f10 is no exception

this... and if you really think about it it started before, the E39 540 and E38 740 were 4.4l V8s.

The F30 328 and F10 520 are both 2.0 4s.
The E90 328 was actually a 3.0 if you all recall.

The new 4 banger makes more power and is more fuel efficient than the N/A 6 it replaces.

As for the F10 being bolted together, the E60 was where it started, thats how they got the shell to be lighter then the E39.

e46 318i was a 2.0
e46 320i was a 2.2 (same with the 2000 e39 520i)
e39 540i was a 4.4
...

There are more examples of this.

I'd go so far as to say model# and engine size matching is an exception at this point due to the e9x and e60's selling in great volume. The 04-05 525 and 530 models were the only ones that matched during that era.

Even the e28/e30 had x25e models with 2.7l engines.

E90: 328, 325, 330 = 3.0 I6 (N52)
E60: 525, 528, 530 = 3.0 I6 (N52)
*35 are also 3.0 I6 (+TT)
The new X drive 50i is 4.4 TT

i thought that the 325 was still a 2.5 liter straight six? when the 325d comes to the US it is supposed to be a 2.5 liter turbodiesel

Last 325 sold in the US (MY 06, E90) had the same 3 liter engine as the 330 (also MY 06, E90) and 328 (07-11) - N52B30. Only difference was intake manifold + engine mgmt, with a 40 hp range between the 3.

It's possible to fit that 30i manifold (also on the X3 30si) to any other N52 and use a tune to make it work and up the power to the 330i numbers.

European market is a bit better, only 2/6 models don't match their capacity. (E90)
