how do you register and smog an s54 conversion in CA?

i drove a 2007 550i last week

25mm H&R spacer/bolts - $60

leave it as a 3XX and find a "one of those smog" places... but then, if you have it insured as a 3XX and it gets totalled, you are at a loss. maybe kalim can chime in.....
