Shotgun for HD/Clay Shooting
Any Expertise on this field?
I went clay shooting for the first time today, and had an absolute blast. I'm addicted right away... I shot a 870, it was very comfortable. It seems like this is the route to go (not the mention they're cheap) Anything else I should need to know? I figured it'd be a decent gun for HD as well (with the correct ammunition), is this a solid assumption?

As a starter gun, the Remington 870 is a great all-purpose gun.

Unless OP plans on sticking with the sport for quite some time, I would advise not lol. OP the 870 is a great starter all-purpose shotgun.

Yeah I've actually been planning on picking up a 28" 870 for this exact purpose. Not that expensive and I love the 870 action. Also, it's hilarious to outshoot your friends who have over-unders and autos with a pump, trust me.

whatever gun fits you and you enjoy the most, really. Don't listen to the yearly change of "long barrel vs. short barrel" popularity. They both do a decent job.
over/under > * I love my Remington Peerless Model 320, great gun for hunting/light trap work. A lot of mixed reviews on it, but I don't really see why. It hasn't failed for me ever with routine cleaning. |

Not the be cheap, but it's the cheapest for fun range time and hasn't had much bad reviews about it. Will probably try and score a deal on the Tactical version that already has a 18.5" and 7 round choke tube. The only difference in barrels is mainly the shot size, correct?

An 18.5" barrel will be terrible for any type of clays. I would go with a 26 or 28.

the more "full" a choke is the tighter your shot will be. The longer the barrel the longer your shot stays "tight". I'm sure Reedo is typing up a novel on this and will hopefully do the trick if my explanation doesn't.

What's the difference between the wingmaster and express?

From what I read the wing master has much more attention paid to detail. Fit and finish are much better. I believe the extractor is different and better in the wingmaster. Action is supposedly smoother and trigger group is metal vs plastic on some expresses.
I got a good deal on a police trade in wingmaster. getting it cerakoted and outfitted with magpul furniture. Sent from my DROIDX using Bimmer |

how much would a new or used 870 go for?
what would you guys consider as a nice step-up from the 870? A shotgun that's more expensive but a worthwhile look if im interested in spending a bit more. |
