Who is the OE for the gasket set? Prices online are running between $17 and $35, with Reinz, Meister and Elring brands.

hi, i just finished and this was a great guide.

I bought the gasket and the groomets, while inspecting them closely i notice that the ones that i bough (victor reinz) where slightly different from the ones that were on the car. is there a reason why?

the one on the right are the new ones and the left one was the one that came with the car.

and this is a closer pic

Same with mine as well. The victor reinz I bought were a little shorter compared to OEM.
But it doesn't leak any more, so I am happy. The old ones were as hard as metal

OEM Valve Cover Gasket: 11129070990
Valve Cover Grommets (15): 11-12-1-437-395

but i was reading on bimmerfest wiki and this other guy used part number 11120030496

Just ordered all the parts to do the vcg and the vanos seals. Can't wait to get started, long overdue for this.

So if your missing a bolt, the bolt to hold the valve cover, and its not in he engine bay or on the ground but when you start the car there's a clicking noise that makes you think the bolt is inside? Where would you look? I've taken the valve cover off again but all I found was the washer. Where should I look?

Do you have an M3 perhaps? Just looking at another discounting BMW dealer online, the M3 VCG (only the gasket) lists for $65 sells for $51 and the 325/330i one lists for $46 sells for $36. Of course you can go OEM for $24 from Autohausaz which includes the spark plug and VC gaskets. If you want the valve cover stud seals, that's another $5 at Autohaus.

Nah, non M. I just picked up the gasket and grommets from bma autoparts. Forgot to check autohausaz. Bma is still cheap though. Only $5 for the grommets? dammm.

WOW just did this DYI. The old gasket was DONE and not rubber anymore. Hardest part was trying the get the cover back on... the gasket kept falling out.
Unfortunately during the removal, I broke one of the attachments to the cover... I think its the vanos attachemend? The plastic just cracked at the base.. Attached is a pic. Can anybody tell me what part this is and where I can buy another quick. Thanks.

Another question. During the DYI. I noticed the long plastic piece near the cabin filter area needed to be changed... The part where it touches the windshield, edges were all cracked/ baked. attached is a picture.

Is the replaced gasket suppose to have some gap space as seen in attached pic? Everything bolted properly.

Looks just like it's the Vacuum Hose (part 4):

http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E4...acuum_control/

You should be able to pick some of that up at any auto parts store. Just bring in part of the old vacuum hose and they should be able to match it for just a few cents or a buck.
