i was given the tip on SNPK. Made a few bucks on that one.

Don't get suckered in again unless you can and are able to make very quick moves. It's a stock pickers market right now. I feel bad for my 401k customers who make a little money, then get their lunch handed to them. Last year = 3 good quarters, but sandwiched in between, a devastatingly bad one. Result? Most of them lost money for the year, some more than others, and partly due to market conditions, partly due to mutual fund fees that are too high, and mostly due to their own panic.

Do you see many non 401k users making profits?

I absolutely hate people who can't understand investments are for the long haul. My sister (32 now) was asking if she should pull her money out of her 401k every dip for the past couple years, the answer is always the same... NO! Nobody in there right mind would try and debunk the long term way of investing, what also should be respected though is the short term buy and sell.--- especially if the short termer is not totally relying on profits from investments and if he is indeed redistributing his divs to more secure long term securities.

I doubled my money on a random stock in two months, local minerals company merged with another small company but only had 1025 into it.

what trading site do you guys use that doesn't cost a lot?

ummm its all about percentage gains.................. I got back into the market after a break a little over a year ago with 5k to play around with and have already turned it into 10.4k all while holding a full time job..

if you know what youre doing swing trades can be a great way to get returns without the hassle and attention that day trading requires..

I would say with as little as starting with 5k it was totally worth it.

I'm interested to hear why, I've used the platform since 06 and have not had any problems with it, though I use other places for research.

Off the top of my drinking head? Trade commissions suck, slow execution, terrible charting software, lack of decent proprietary indicators, no decent programmable functions, inability to customize chart settings with continual saved settings. Should I go on? Of course, that only includes the Scottrade Elite problems from the last time I tried their crap a bit ago, they may be slightly better today (though I doubt it).
