Good idea Jeff.

To expand a little about that pin/plug, what I found when checking it out is that pushing a usb device/cable into it would generally push that pin in, which would then stay recessed usually, but not every time.

To improve the connection I used a teeny screwdriver to unclip the pin from its 'captured' position so on end is freed, then bend it a tiny bit and push back in so it stays put. This has made the connection much more robust, and things seem to work fine.

What I just can't understand though is how wifi always worked fine but bluetooth never would. A loost USB pin on the pigtail doesn't really explain that because USB is 2 pins for power and 2 for signal as I understand. Whichever pin was loose would affect any item plugged in the same way.

Whatever though - it's now working, but I'm just waiting for it to stop again.

Something is a bit unstable with the dynavin anyway though. Often it doesn't turn on by itself (ie you leave it on when turning the ignition off and leaving the car, and it should restart when you stick the key back in).

We're getting there though....

The WiFi usb plug board was probably a few fractions bigger than the Bluetooth one essentially barely making connections. I have seen this before on other devices. I fixed a few usb plus with a paper-clip that i made into a ping grabber with some needle nose pliers.

I've flashed the R1.1 ROM then which worked as well. This ROM is booting fine.
Any luck with 1.221? I tried 3 different SD cards and flashing works okay but no booting.

Oh yeah, that's really obvious now you mentioned it!

On another note, I've just been searching in vain through this thread looking for the posts about which OBD bluetooth dongles people have bought.

Must be doing something dumb when I'm looking for those posts as I can't find them.
Want to get one ordered but some of the ones I've been looking at on ebay are a bit sketchy about whether they'll work with my car or not.

Can someone possibly point me in the right direction please for tried and tested ones?

I've also noticed something weird when it comes to connecting the bluetooth USB dongle. It looks like the bluebooth works fine when I connect it via a USB HUB, and not directly to the GPS USB connector on the Dynavin.
My guess is it might be related to either power issues or USB ID on the android.

My current setup for making bluetooth and torque working on the D99.

USB HUB:

Cheep Belkin USB HUB with no additional power ($5)

Bluetooth USB dongle:

Cheep Belkin USB dongle ($5)

OBD II BT adapter:

Borrowed from a friend. Costs about $40 from ebay.

I've also encountered some issues when I started the Torque app for unknown reasons (closing unexpectable).
If anyone have any clues why, please let me know.

Torque crashes:

Hi I m using a cheap one i got from e-bay.
Here is a link t an current ofer for it:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/ELM327-OBD-2-...item20c4b0b35a
It workes fine with my BMW.
I've used it before with my mobile telefone.using torque. First with a HTC HD2 and now with a HTC SensationXL.
I also tested it with the Dynavin. It also was fine there. It was posting this one page above.

I ordered a BT kit with a OBD Mini and BT dongle, but the supplier said it is still awaiting delivery from the manufacturer, so I requested to cancel the order.

Yesterday I order this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/320832449271...L:3160&vxp=mtr

Stated to work with Android and Torque is suggested so that should do the job. Also it a lot cheaper than the previous one I ordered. About half the price.

When I receive it I'll share my findings.

Today I made some progress with the 3G modem. I was trying a O2 SIM card with it and was able to connect to the internet. I could read messages here in the forum, getting a route with google navigation and was able to load the play store.
Here are two videos from the test:

Could anyone shed some light on installing 1.221? I got a card another card formatted (thanks Jeff!) and was able to load up to the screen where it says to pull the card and reboot but after this nothing... just a blank screen. This is on a D99 unit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Raz

From me too. I've the same problems.
Therefore i tryed the Baldr-v2.3.0.6 ROM, which is also Gingerbread, but this did not work too. After flashing the android is starting - at the first start with touchscreen calibartion - but it seems that it does not respond to the touchscreen. It gets stuk there. At the next boot it starts with a look screen, wich can't be unlocked because of the touchscreen issue.
I got it here

It appears that the Dynavin D99 boots up the Android side a little different from my D90. I was fixing the volume problem my friend was having on the radio side of his D99 and flashed R1221 to the Android side. I noticed the same problem some of the members here have reported with the blank black screen. The D99 is a bit picky / sensitive about the way you power on the unit so if you having the blank screen bug you will have to play around with the way you power on the unit.

- Before flashing any of my ROM make sure you are using a sd card that you know for sure is formatted correctly and is able to flash the stock Dynavin ROM without any problems.
- After flashing a new ROM make sure to take out all sdcards, disconnect all wifi, and bluetooth adapters.
- Power off the Dynavin and wait 1 minute before powering back on. This is needed for the Android side to power down and clear out RAM.
- When powering on tap the power button (Do not hold down the power button for more than 1 second)
- First boot after flashing a new ROM should take no more than 5-10 minutes.
- After successfully booting into Android you can reattach all wifi bluetooth and sdcards and use normally.

If you are still having problems with the blank screen

- First thing to check after powering on is to check if your wifi dongle is getting power and the led light is on. Some of the black blank screen could be the Android side is not even powered on while the radio side is on and working normally. If this happens power off wait 1 minute and power back on by tapping the power button.

Yep - have this a few times myself. Not so much after flashing a rom, but just every now and then when I boot it up I just get a blank screen in Android. Rebooting always solves it, but it's a bit annoying.

I just got my ELM327 OBD2 device anyway. Just about to test it with the dynavin but I couldn't get it to show on any of the OBD apps I downloaded for my iPhone or ipad for some reason.
Even in the bluetooth settings on the iphone it wouldn't detect the OBD dongle which is a bit worrying. No instructions with it either, just a disc with some non android apps, some of which include keygens with them, the cheeky sods!!!

Will try it now and see if I can get it to speak to dynavin.....

Only thing disappointing so far is this ELM 327 dongle is pretty big, and I can't imagine I'll be able to just leave it plugged in like I'd planned on doing. Will have to live in the glovebox and just plug it in when I need it I guess.

*edit* works perfectly with Torque, although I'm not sure what the optimal settings are.
Like it though.

One thing I'm unsure of though with OBD dongle, is it has a red LED lit all the time its plugged in from what I can see. Even after I took the key out the LED was on.
Does this mean that even apart from likely kicking it when I get in & out of the car it'd be a bad idea having it plugged in all the time?
Ie, specifically does it draw power all the time it's plugged in??!
