*Video* BMW Coupe Engine is SMOKING - What's Wrong???

Hello Fellow e46'ers...

A sad day this morning... Here's why:

Started up my 1999 325ci BMW and within 10-20 seconds it started smoking from the engine - specifically from a certain area (see video).

The idle was a bit rough - revved down then back up then down and back up.

There were also some popping noises kind of sounded like they were coming from the exhaust.

Here's the video -

I'm too scared to even drive the car to the mechanic in case there is some serious damage...

Can you guys please help me guess what's wrong with it????

ALL & ANY Help is appreciated!!!!

-Sam

All it takes is to look at where it smokes from. You see those 2 big aluminum plates over your exhaust manifolds? see how one of them is COMPLETELY covered in oil, you know why? Because your valve cover gasket is leaking.

It costs 40$ and takes 35 min to install

Valve cover gasket. Safe to drive, just use recirculation mode so you don't breathe that crap. Also, fix it ASAP.

Don't preclude the possibility that a stuck CCV could have caused the VCG failure. Esp if it happened suddenly.

agree. Ive never seen this much smoke when VCG is leaking especially the smoke would go away if after a while due to the vacuum preventing oil from leaking out the seal.
