OP, headers change sound and add some power. don't be expecting 1000 hp from them. there is a thread dedicated to ebay headers. their quality isn't as great as what active's would be and have the potential to leak. i don't think actives are really worth that price other than being a "name brand". i'm running ebay headers with no issues other than cel for emissions...

91 octane chip mod, our cars are designed to run on 91 or better. our ecu's are not capable to be chipped. they are programmed. unless i've missed something over the years...???

OP hope this helps you understand the theroy of headers and etc..Ps welcome to e46.

Headers replace the stock exhaust manifold. They connect the motor to the exhaust pipe. They are usually reccomeneded because they eliminate the catalytic converter, thus allowing the car to "exhale exhaust" easier improving horsepower.

Look at your car like a big set of lungs. The better you can breath in (cold air intake/short ram intake) and the better you can exhale (open exhaust engine back) results in a better feeling (more horsepower)

Headers scavange heat away from your exhaust valves alot faster keeping the engine cooler which will help in creating a bit more horsepower,

Really, why waste the time of multiple people instead of just doing a search? It's not like it was a complex question that was difficult to search.
