Did the oil filter change yesterday after 1200miles, zero oil consumption(probably bc its thicker dino) and filter was clean. Oil is a dark brown color but not completely black
I still have abt 2k miles left to drive

Hi,

I am planning on doing tha Auto-Rx treatement soon, but I am confused about which oil to use. The Auto-RX website says that you can run synthetics if you must and mentions a few synthetics in specific. But just to be sure, can you name the Group III 5w40 that you are running, maybe I can find something analogous to that, here in the US.

Thanks for the info.

Shell Helix Ultra 5W40. Talk to Pennzoil as Platinum 5W40 is probably the same oil. Anything that's totally ester free is a good choice, if PAO free even better. I use 2 3/4 bottles RX per clean and my shop owner says my 325 runs better than any he has seen. Run it 5,000 miles/8,000kms

RX has nothing to do with Teflon. It's a mix of three aliphatic esters in a proprietary formulation fwiw.

I did an oil change in flagstaff AZ at a truck stop. No oil was consumed.
Car seems to run a little bit smoother.

I don't know if I ever want to do a cross country run by myself again... very boring...

I'll update after the flush phase is done.

I don't think there's any teflon in it at all.

There's a religious following on bob's the oil guy forum. I would use it on any car that doesn't require synthetic oils but I had to do some research before I did it on my 330ci.

There is no longer a religious following on Bob's The Oil Guy Forum with auto-rx. AutoRx was let go as a sponsor and I talked with Bob, who no longer owns the board, and he told me this product does not work. There are 37 Locked Auto-Rx Threads on BITOG. If you want to see how auto-rx works on SLUDGE you can Google a Thread called ( 3 ARX Cleans Did Not Do Much Bummer )

I wonder if it was just considered not effective (i.e. snake oil), or it caused damage somewhere down the line?

This product was considered to be ineffective in cleaning up engines, there were many customers who got better results using Diesel Oil, and some even got better results using Pennzoil Platinum and Mobil 1

There was actually an auto-rx user who started a thread called ( Mobil 1 Cleans Better Than Auto-Rx ) This product was never tested on an automobile engine, this product does have a Patent, but a Patent is meant to protect a product from being copied. Do you think a Patent Office or anyone who issues the Patent is going to go ahead and test the product to make sure it works. What the owner of auto-rx did was show the Patent Office a dirty cylinder head, then they went and had the Cylinder Head HOT TANKED, so they showed the Patent Office Before and After Pictures. If you were to visit the auto-rx board you would see that all they have are 3rd Party Tests that cannot be verified.

Auto-Rx has claimed that they have some tests that were done by Lubrizol, yet they say the information they have gathered is PROPRIETARY, basically they have no tests. The auto-rx company is run out of a Town House with 3 employees in Jacksonville, Florida. The product is actually processed and bottled in Michigan by a company called Haviland Products, it is then shipped 1000 miles to Florida. Most of the cost of auto-rx is in shipping, and basically all auto-rx is comprised of is some Esters, I believe Lanolin is one of the main ingredients, RedLine Oil has more Esters than auto-rx. If anyone is pushing this product or giving glowing reviews then chances are they are being compensated by auto-rx.

Auto-Rx has been in business for only 10 years, and in that time they only have about 1050 customers, with 98% of these people being onetime customers. The owner of auto-rx wants to sell his product for alot of money, meaning he wants almost $1,000,000 dollars, this product probably is not even worth $500.00

All of the Moderators on the Auto-Rx Forum are no longer using the product because they found out it was ineffective act cleaning anything up in there engines. Auto-Rx has another problem in that this product has a Pour Point of 50 Degrees, so when temperatures get down below 30 degrees it basically pours out very slowly, kind of like pouring out 10W-30 dino oil after it has sat in the freezer for 24 hours.

This product costs $27.97 for a 12 ounce bottle, it is the most EXPENSIVE Oil Additive to clean your engine on the Internet today, if this product were in stores like AutoZone it would cost about $40.00 a bottle. There are cheaper products that do a much better job in cleaning up an engine.

The only persons posting on the auto-rx forum is the owner and one of his employees. I am sure many of you have heard of BITOG, you can check the Oil Additive Section and see that nobody is talking about this product, they are now talking about an engine cleaner where members are getting results, the product is called Kreen. A former auto-rx user who is a mechanic with many years of experience got zero results from auto-rx. He ran auto-rx for 5000 miles in many of his customers cars that were making noise from junk being in the Lifters and when the noises did not go away he tried Kreen and within a few hundred miles or less the Lifter Noise went away, Kreen has shown results, auto-rx has not shown any results, all auto-rx does is make excuses when customers did not get any results.

I was once associated with Auto-Rx and since I found out that it does not work as advertised I am recommending Kreen, I have not used the product, but I have not read where any Kreen customers were disatisfied with the product.

Auto-Rx wants everyone to believe that all other Oil Additives like KREEN, MMO, RISLONE, SEAFOAM, and GUNK MOTOR FLUSH are bad for our engines and that they have solvents which can harm our engines. Auto-Rx has never tested any of these other oil additives. Why does auto-rx have before and after pictures of cylinder heads on there site, yet auto-rx says in posts where users were dissatisfied that there product does not clean any junk in the cylinder heads. Alot of auto-rx users said there cylinder heads did not look like the pics from Aaron's test with auto-rx. I actually corresponded with Aaron via e-mail and he told me that when he approached the owner of auto-rx about running some tests that his order was canceled. He had to get someone else to buy auto-rx, the reason is that the owner of auto-rx wants to control any tests on auto-rx because he knows the product does not work as advertised.

I really liked the test that dnewton3 did on auto-rx, he showed where auto-rx raised the compression in a cylinder that was low on his Dad's car, I believe this car was a Ford Escort with 81,000 miles. dnewton3 left out some information about why this cylinder was down on compression. A friend of his Dad's was driving the car one night and a freeze plug popped off near the cylinder that was down on compression, basically the cylinder got hot and the oil probably coked up. Here is something else that is interesting, dnewton3 is a DIEHARD dino Oil Fan, yet he used Pennzoil Platinum for the Clean and Rinse Phases of auto-rx, since Pennzoil Platinum does have some cleaning properties it is possible that auto-rx does not deserve all of the credit. I also have to say that I cannot believe any of the numbers from dnewton3's tests of auto-rx since he was given free product.

I also want everyone to know that auto-rx does have a Money Back Guarantee, well, good luck getting your money back because the owner of auto-rx will claim that you did something wrong, how does he even know what his product can do when he has never had the product tested. There was dissatisfied customer that got his money back, he had to get a LAWYER involved.

When auto-rx was a sponsor on the Internet's Number 1 Oil Website there was a member who started a Thread called QUANTIFYING AUTO-RX, he was going to be running some tests on auto-rx, the owner of auto-rx did not want this members test results put on the board, he was told by the owner of that board to not post any results good or bad. Anyone here can Google the thread I mentioned, again auto-rx did not want the results posted because they knew that this member would not see any results.

There is also an ITEMS FOR SALE SECTION on this board that auto-rx was once a sponsor on, there are 12 different threads where members are selling there auto-rx, they could return there auto-rx, but they would have to pay shipping and they would be hit with a 20% RESTOCKING FEE.

There is a problem with auto-rx in that you have to use dino oil for the Rinse Phase, then they said you could use a Group III Synthetic, but a few years ago you could not use a Group III Synthetic with auto-rx. I have seen many members use various dino oils and when they did not get results the owner of auto-rx would say he used the wrong oil when infact you can use any dino oil with auto-rx. They actually want you to use Wal-Mart SuperTech Dino Oil with auto-rx, becuase it is cheap and probably because you will have more money to buy auto-rx.

sprintman, I can remember when you and your business partner Ron said that you were running tests on hundreds of vehicles, yet you have never posted any results with auto-rx in any of these vehicles.

Now I rememberyou're the Amsoil scammer! You'll be trying to push Amsoil engine solvent flush on these guys, don't think you'll have much success I'm afraid, they are pretty smart. Oh and I haven't seen or spoken to Ron for years, he' running an oil businees. Nice try anyway Gary but you were never very bright, all to obvious I'm afraid. Stick to Amsoil scamming, it's what you do best

Australia 5 users? Hmmm well Ron Stasinowski in Melbourne imported 8 cases @ 24 bottles each and sold the lot to multiple users from his forklift/vehicle service business. I'm not sure who gave you these figures but you better ask for your money back, as you've been well and truly had!

The best cleaner for your engine is oil...fresh oil. You shouldn't need anything else.

Also, I'll just say that of all our 200K members here, there are very few I listen to about oil, and Sprintman is one of them. I can't think of one time he's said anything not based on solid information. Because of him, I know many are using a proper oil, and by using such an oil, have no need for adding anything else to the engine.

If there was something that would be good to add periodically, I'd trust BMW would tell us...or would sell us. They sell Techron as a fuel additive. If I'm mistaken and they sell an oil additive, I'd be interested to learn what it is.

The REAL AutoRx test

sprintman

I humbly believe we on the other side of the planet have been conducting the REAL Rx test. So far more than 72 bottles (3 cases @ A$550-600 a case) have been used in multiple forklifts, large trucks, and a few cars. Forklift and truck owners demand tangible results as their livelihood depends on it. For an engine, a forklift is about as bad as it gets useage wise, very intermittent useage leading to condensation, sludging like you woudn't believe, just generally used and abused. The drivers don't own them so you can imagine oil or coolant levels etc get little attention. Rx results so far are encouraging showing almost clean oil at the 100hr service points (using maint dose), whereas before black as Hades. An amazing change. Drivers are reporting it "seems to run better". The maintenance bills are decreasing and you can be d--- sure owners notice that real quick. Test not finished yet but results so far look very encouraging and we are sure its a commercially viable here even at our highly inflated prices. Now is this a better test than a 'one off' in a street driven vehicle? But be assured nobody can deny we have "put our money where our mouth is" as we say here.

sprintman, you started this thread on 8/10/03, I am sure almost 9 YEARS LATER that you probably have some results. I do have another question, is there a reason why this thread you started called THE REAL AUTO-RX TEST is Locked.

Talk to Ron in Melbourne, he did all the testing years back. I have my own case purchased years ago and I do my own thing, eg I definitely don't follow the instructions or qty's. Any part of that you don't understand?

This isn't based on anything substantial, but on my 1983 280ZX w/ 205k miles I usually drive to the parts store, buy 1Qt of synthetic ATF put it in, drive home and change the oil. Probably placebo but i think it keeps it cleaner than with out.

sprintman, I do not understand, I could not find any mention of Ron In Melbourne, I think this guys last name is Stasinowski, so we will call him Ron Stasinowski, there was no mention of this guy in Melbourne, Australia. I could not find anything about a Forklift Business. I am really thinking that there is NO Ron that you work with, you are probably Ron. I do not see anyone named Ron posting about auto-rx, I only see sprintman.

In our engines, with synthetic, you develop a film at around 5K miles...which film is good to have as extra layer of protection between moving metal parts. Thus why you don't want to do this in our car, nor add any cleaner to your engine beside fresh oil every 10K miles or so.

Just saying!
