Male genitals, a discussion
The human body is designed extremely well in so many ways. It's amazing and complex no matter what way you look at it.
Except why are our dick and especially balls, such fragile, vulnerable, and evolutionary important organs, just dangling out there? Ignoring other downfalls, I feel like girls have the advantage here. How often have you sat down the wrong way and needed to get adjusted just to be able to relax, get hit there during sports and felt such extreme debilitating pain, or just been plagued by a horrible case of "schweaty balls" on a hot summer's day? Now I understand that sperm can only live at a certain temperature and that's the reason they have to be a certain distance from our 98.6 degree body, but you'd think we would have evolved to just let them live at body temperature, right? What gives?

In any good design, the most frequently used equipment is placed in a location that allows for ease of servicing.

Interesting question....
It is most certainly not ideal from a design perspective. The most vulnerable part of our body seems to be put in the most vulnerable spot. But what about evolutionary advantages? What if the apes who had the longest, most exposed, most dangly bits happened to attract the most ape ladies? Evolution doesn't always reward positive changes in design, it simply rewards changes that allow for maximum reproduction. Ape slvts must love dangly balls. |

The balls are located outside of the abdominal cavity because it needs to be 2-3 degrees lowers in order for proper sperm maturation and development. As embryos, males and females develop similarly, except for the genitalia. The Y chromosome will lead to growth of what was once a clitoris into a penis, and the labia majora into the scrotum (the gonad similarity is ovary to testes though). To evolve into having testes in our abdominal cavity would be "backwards evolution" as early primates and mammals were known to have this. We actually evolved to have it on the outside because the enzymes that are involved in spermatogenesis work better in a slightly cooler environment. The testicles are riddled in nerves, because of how valuable and vulnerable testes are. Remember the chord that carries the sperm (epididmus) is very thin and prone to damage. So pain is a good thing. Where as Women have their ovaries tucked away safely, so they have less to worry about.
Women have plenty to worry about, with periods, mucusy vagina that is prone to fungal and bacterial infections (100x more than men), pregnancy, more STDs, etc etc. We are lucky

and you are also correct. Love it.Yeah, this is a situation where the "best design" wasn't necessarily the most competitive design.
