MVRK's Cheap Mod DIY - Grilles, Windshield Wiper Tank, Custom USB charger

So here is how I wired it up..

Taped into the purple/white telephone switched 12v and the brown ground (however, I had two brown cables in the bundle...)


Connectors to the wiretaps.


From the connectors it goes to the iPhone car charger which I dissembled.
Solder to the connects where the side prongs and front spring loaded knob is.



Then cut the back cord that would originally go to the iPod charging and solder on a new cable (which I found lying around so gauge is unknown). I know my solder sucks, I'm fixing these spots right now which may be the problem.


Then placed a connector on that wire to easily disconnect it when taking my interior apart, as well as the other connector on the USB Hub end. (The white and Green wires are data)


Then the final

sorry i am a little confused by your pictures. the white wire is what exactly? also i would suggest trying the other ground wire if you are having electric issues. I hope you are not trying to hardwire your ipod? you just need to run the +12V and ground to the chargers connections ( +12v is at the "tip" and ground is at the side if i remember correctly") then plug in the ipod usb cable into the charger.

after rereading the last few posts I just want to say a few things

1. antenna modulators are super sensative and in general are a bad idea. the only way would be to appropriatly shield the power wires. you can try aluminum foil but in reality you need real metal shielding which is more trouble than its worth.

2. I suggest getting a regular 2 or 4 port charger like the one i had and taking it apart. make sure you check the positivie and negative poles and solder them directly. you should be able to run it to the cigarette lighter. it is hard to give advice on the internet w/o physically looking at it, but this is the best i can come up with so far.

so does the cig lighter still work when the usb is installed? cuz im gonna need it

just great. better than the hood. one small chip from what i heard and saw as being one bigr rock.

I could not find plastic primer but I found 2 in 1 paint and primer for plastic that is the flat black. Im guessing this will still work? I just dont want it to look like ****.

Why use this method (kidneys) over just cleaning and using Plasti-dip?

@Justa330xi - yes it will work fine

@Ksims - cause some of us are men and can handle spray paint without having to use plastidip.
