Monitors aren't set(Dinan S3-R)

My Dinan s3-R m3 cant be smogged in its current tune(monitors arent set). So Dinan wants me to bring my car to a BMW dealership so my DME can be shipped to them so they can reflash my dme and send it back with a more conservative tune. Well Im not exactly a fan of this idea but if I have to... well then i have to.. Ughh gotta go deal with the aweful people at Bill Pearce BMW(yes they were almost put out of business because a customer of mine made a website to exploit there back business practices). Anyways what software/cable do i need to turn the monitors back on? I work for a road race shop here in Reno for 1 of my 2 jobs and my boss has been tuning cars for the last 25years/owned his own IMSA Porsche racing team yada yada yada. I know actually tuning the e46 is a big secret apparently but if no one is willing to feed me a little bit of information then maybe yall can point me in a direction of someone who can tune my car for more power(Dinan is conservative) and also turn the monitors back on.

We need to understand exactly why the monitors are not "ready". If you are running without cats, there is no way a "more conservative" tune is going to fix that.

Not familiar with the programming yet, but the GT1/DIS/SSS/progman dealer level software should be able to do it. The stuff sells on eBay for $50 ish

Which specific monitors then, cat/O2, secondary air, etc won't set? Do you have any stored trouble codes, a SES light, etc? When was the last time any codes were cleared or the battery disconnected?

Cat, 02, sec. Air pump, and One other. No codes, no ses, I cleared an secondary pass seat occupancy code probably 2 monthes ago when I was putting in my recaros. I've put probably 200-300 miles on my car since then.

If you're only putting 200-300 miles on the car in 2 months, there is a very good possibility that you simply haven't completed the drive cycle needed to reset the monitors. I would suggest trying to complete 100-300 miles of mixed driving within a week or so. It will probably require several complete warm up / cool down cycles as well as some extended highway driving. Here's a link to a chart that should give you a rough idea of what is required:

Well here's the thing. Dinan said the monitors won't set. Possible? I know this true for the 7psi pulley/ software.

Unless they have specifically disabled them in your tune, I don't see why this would be the case. If they have indeed disabled them (I would typically only expect this of cars running aftermarket headers without cats), then they will definitely need to turn those modules back on in the code. Dinan would certainly know better than I what they have done with your tune.

I doubt you will find any readily available tools to update your DME yourself. And even if you could do it, you might be better off to let Dinan take care of it for you so as to avoid the whole finger pointing blame game sometime down the road when/if something goes wrong with your car.

Well dang.. I have no problem with flashing the car. I work with some extremely knowledgable engineers. Point being I'd love to know what software and cable to use to actually tune the car on our dyno.
