why do people bother with e46/e90 sedans

So whenever I look at 3 series BMWs I have wondered why people buy the sedan with the intention of making it a nice looking vehicle. The coupe, just from stock form, looks infinitely better.

The only exception IMO is the E90 M3 because it shares the front of the E92. Non-m E90s are pretty inferior in looks. Whether is this an intentional BMW design decision, I don't know. This thread isn't about flaming sedan owners. I am genuinely curious if sedans are made to be "uglier" than their coupe counterparts.

EDIT: In particular, the ZHP vs M3. Why one would go with the former is beyond me.

I find the non-m sedans to be on par, if not better looking than the coupes. Especially the refresh of the E90. If I wanted a 2 door with the N54/N55, I'd go with a 1-series. If I wanted a sedan with the N54/N55 I'd go with an E90.

I do, however, think the 335is coupe looks great.

i think it's cool for the younger person who drives a lot of friends around town. it's a better corolla. in college a lot of frat boys had e36m3/4 and c-sedans

i'm done with the car game. i'll drive a new car if you give it to me, but these days i'm hitting maybe 100 miles/month

Your opinion vs their opinion that's why. Coupes don't look infinetly better.

Sedans have stiffer body shells and make better performance platforms.

The 3 series sedans are made for parents that need to fit a baby in the back, nothing more.

An adult does not really fit in the back of a 4 door 3 series, it's way too cramped. Even the 5 series is a bit tight (minus the newer F10).

The people that mod them are typically 2nd / 3rd hand owners that got them for cheap and wanted the BMW badge. Nothing more nothing less.

Some may disagree to their hearts content.

sedans look better. why bother with a coupe, if you gonna have 2 doors, the roof better come off or it better be an M3. coupes are a waste.... at least us sedan guys can pretend to be practical. hows that for infinitely better.

and im also pretty sure the E92 doesnt share anything on the nose/front with the E90.

Mhmm, practical shoving your knees up against a seat. A practical 4 door would be 5 series at the least.

I have a 4 door, and most of the time I never need more than 2 doors with a date. In fact, I HATE people in my car because they're bound to just wrinkle the leather on my seats eventually.

Next car will definitely be a coupe, as long as it has fold-down rear seats.

E46 is E46. The coupes and sedans are the same basic design with only minor differences.

E90 and E92 are totally different designs.

These are 2 different situations.

its just easier to put big stuff on the back seat when i have doors back there, rather than moving a seat fwd and all that crap.

I have a fobia of 4 doors. You know that whole mugger waiting in the backseat fear.

A coupe with fold-downs and ski pass is just as practical. I hate when people play this game

I don't ever put anything on the rear seats in fear or ruining (scratching or wrinkling) the leather.

I don't even put groceries in the back because I don't want to re-stripe the carpets.

Last large item I ever had in my 4 door was a 50"~ TV that fit just fine with only the seats folded down.

People hype up the 3 series "practicality" way too much, it's just not there. It's in the 5 series.
