Custom Alignment - Autocross

Hi there. I hope this is in the right forum, if not, I'm sure it will get moved. But has anyone had a custom alignment done for Autocross purposes? What should I know on what setup to look for or recommend. Also, can any shop can perform this, most places say they cannot do an alignment on BMW's, and I'm not quite sure why. Also, Can this be done on a stock suspension? Sorry for all the questions, but rookie school is coming up. Thanks again.

Some serious autocrossers do setup their cars for autocrossing. However if this is going to be your first autocross or maybe even your first season, you should get to know your car first before you do anything. Hardcore autocrossers who setup their alignment, usually have Camber plates installed into their cars so that they can adjust: camber, toe etc... But you should just make sure that your car is straight first and have fun before you get serious. Once you get to know your car fairly well, the camber and toe of the car will mean alot more to you in an autocross.

As for alignment shops, I recommend that you look into the shops that advertise in the local newsletter of your BMWCCA chapter. Chances are that most of the BMWCCA shops are weekend warriors.

mfino, I will definitely recommend attending the event with you car as-is. In fact, take enroll in a couple more events after that. Get to know the car a little better. Then think about adjusting the necessary. Talk to some of the more experienced autox-ers at the events. You will learn a lot from them.
