e46 swap

I'm thinking about doing an engine swap. More or less leaning towards an s54b32. I need ideas about what to do, I'm thinking about picking up a salvaged m3 in a while but honestly I still need help to figure out exactly what to do. I'm going for a racing style car. I thought about an lsx376 for a while but I don't know about all that anymore. As you can see I'm really unsure about all this but I do have time till I actually plan to do this. I just got the car a couple weeks ago. I know what an engine swap entails so I am not looking for haters to tell me not to swap. I need more power. Thanks in advance for any help. I am honestly looking for absolutely anything

fine fine... we won't hate on you for asking with no intention of doing it... we'll hate on you FOR NOT SEARCHING WHEN THIS HAS BEEN DONE AND COVERED SOOOO MANY TIMES!!!

Read threads like this,
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...light=s54+swap
and then ask questions

lmao my bad. I do have an intention of doing it but yea, I'm searching now too. I just keep hearing the same stuff, 1/2jz, LSx, or s54. I kind of want to see if there is anything else. I'm really just asking a blanket question, but sorry for not searching enough prior to posting

Long story short, you're really doing more of a body swap than an engine swap.

Good luck and do a thread.

I'm in the middle of an engine swap right now. I went into it with the same outlook that you've described. My advice... Don't do it, you don't understand how much work it is. If you do do it, do it over winter. Not hating, just my .02 cents

yea, after I made it I realized I could have put the word engine in the thread title but whatever. Worst comes to worst, I scour forums for hours looking for whatever information I can find on other swaps and the problems people have. Also, I found that if you swap an s54b32, you just use everything off the donor car. I also read some info about the LSD but I am more or less new to all this so I'm understanding what I can. Yea, I'm planning to do it in December or sometime around there, but I know how difficult it is. I've been around swaps before. But thanks for the input. What are you swapping? s54b32 into an e46?

I believe trashcan is swapping in the same motor. OP, if you have to ask, you don't want to know. Just buy an M3.

I'm sticking with another m54b30.. I suffered the dreaded oil pump failure.

On paper it sounds fairly simple. the Bentley book will be your best friend, but even at that it's no simple job. I expected things would not work 100% according to plan, as they always do with cars (more so BMW). But really it's a pain. you sound like me, no expert, but still knowledgeable and somewhat mechanically inclined, it's still going to turn out to be much more work than you expect.

If you do it, my advice is a).get a bently book and b)only do so with someone who is experienced with BMW's and engine swaps. I can't explain what you'll be getting yourself into, but like me, you will learn when you get into the serious stuff. Live and learn.

Good luck friend.

Search for shops that will do the swap for you. Some places out there even supply all the parts you need. It's cheaper to have 1 of them do it than buying a wrecked out m3 and doing it yourself.

Trashcan, thanks for that. I'll be sure to find someone who has already experienced a e46 swap. And dude dog, I've been looking, only really found one place near me that will do it. And that is still a 4 hour drive away
