The asking price was 35,000 and We agreed originally on 31,000 for the car and after further discussion agreed on 29,500 After HPF found issues we agreed to split the costs and lowered the price to 28,400 as the bill from HPF was about 2500 and some of the costs were optional but recommended which I thought I should pay and not the seller. So I paid 1000 of that plus the inspection 500. All of this was fine and I was happy to proceed.

Cost for car 28,400
Plus 4,606 HPF Bill with clutch and catch can plus new found issues with meth injection electronics and turbo charge tube and fittings being damaged and leaking.
HPF leak down an inspection 500
Shipping car 950 texas to HPF plus 650 HPF to Canada
Legal 450
Import fees ,duty , taxes 2600
BMW recall letter 550
BMW Canadian updates for safety 850
New headlight 450
Side skirts with paint 600
Rear bumper fix 250
New rotors and pads 1350
New hpf gauges 500
New speedo in kilometers per hour 300
New tires 1400
Door locks replaced 250
Idle control valve 300
O2 sensor 100
Spare BMW key 250
Front splitter ????

So when I said by the time the dust settles it will be 42 k this is what I meant. I know that if it was staying state side it was a great deal from ur perspective but from mine I have to factor in all the costs

Estimated so far 42k
not Including Canadian sales tax add another 900 if u like

Car also needs federal and provincial inspections as well which is even more money

Point is It's a lot of work and extra costs to bring a car like this into Canada as well lots of planing is needed. I had never done that before and that's what made it a nice challenge

The car does not have coil overs just koni yellows with H&R sports

My favorite quote is. "contempt prior to investigation" is the block to all spiritual progress

I factored in alot of theses costs when purchasing the car. I still think it was a good deal all things considered. There were just more surprises than i had anticipated namely the clutch and side skirts. HPF actually helped out with giving me some very good pricing and would recommend them to anyone wanting to have a car inspected. They went over it with a fine tooth comb. The clutch was missed because there was no insurance or permits for the car as the title had not been transferred before the fixes were made by HPF which i could not have done until the car had been sold. The owner had no plates or insurance on it i took his word that the clutch was good and no mention of any front splitter damage or side skirt issues. The car did come with some spare sensors and a interior panel and new door lock which was great.

I figured the car was worth on its own with the mileage 15,500

The Hpf kit about 10,500

The motor about 6000

Breaks differential 6000

Carbon fiber hood trunk an defuser 3000

Makes the car worth to me around 41k. I was planning on 35k to 37k to make it worth my while so I'm over by 4k to 6k on my budget. These r my numbers for what I thought would work for me if I were to make the deal feasable. I could have sent my 2004 m3 with 50k miles and put a kit on it as that was my other option. My car was in very good condition. I have looked at a lot of HPF cars that have been for sale and they all seemed to be stage 3 with low miles and were immaculate condition. I was just concerned about the sleeved block and also that there was more power than The car could put to the ground without a lot of work.

As long as you're happy and you got what you wanted.
The side skirt could easily have been damaged during shipping.
Clutch is meh, if he wasn't dogging it much, he probably genuinely didn't know.
But as you say, u still think you got a deal, that's all that matters.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it's eye opening.
Happy motoring man.

I am amazed at the list of things you had to address. I remember Funkboy always claiming his car was mint and would fetch tons of money if he had to sell it. In the end I am glad to see you are happy and he was able to move on. Best of luck to you and your new toy.

Don't care what people say a boosted M3 unless it's just out of the shop or barely driven is gonna need stuff.
The car was totally not built for that kinda juice. So of course stuff is gonna need work.

With that said, you opened a lot of eyes to potential costs of buying these things used.

For sure. This car was a daily driver so it shows ware and tear and I new that going in. I also new that it was strong after that kind of use an having the leak down numbers as good as they were. I also consulted a few owners of HPF cars and they gave me confidence to move forward. As new to fi I do not proclaim to be an expert in these cars. I do know cars and raced BMW s for years but this kind of power and fi were new to me so I asked for lots of help

HPF were incredible in helping me sort out this car and I have the most confidence in them. They wouldn't let me take the car until they approved it

In the end apparently Chis said it was one of the fastest 2.5 he has driven with a very wide torque curve and that's on a 25 k mile turbo and motor

No doubt the car is very fast, it was the car that made me switch over to a built motor. Have fun with it!

Congrats on the HPF! 42k still isn't that bad for a car with that much power.. sucks that you had to go through all that though. At least now you can enjoy the power and say your car is "mint" .

i wouldn't sell a turbo m3 to someone unless they were willing to drive it for atleast an hour, had a mechanic knowledgeable in the area that they trusted to look at it and i had been driving it flawlessly for several months without error.
