BMW Performance Intake on 318i

Hi Guys,

I've been looking at getting the BMW Performance Intake for my BMW, but everywhere I look to buy it only specifies it is compatible with a 325i and higher model cars. Surely the 318i can't be that different under the hood. I think the reason a lot of these sites don't list the 318i is because it was never released to the US market. Does anybody know whether it would be compatible with my 318i?

Thanks!

Any idea guys? Alternatively, is there any third party part such as a K&N cold air intake that would suit a 318i?

EDIT: I found this list http://www.knfilters.com/cold_air_intake/bmw_318i.aspx and the year models go from 2005-2011 but I have a 2004 model. Is it likely that this kit would fit a 2004, or would there be significant changes under the hood between 2004 and 2005 such that this kit wouldn't fit?

As far as I know the performance intake isn't compatible. The 325/330 is NOT the same under the hood at all. The 318 is a 4 cylinder

BMW Performance intake will not fit 318 regardless of year.

You will have to buy another intake .

Do you know of any intakes that suit a 318i? Do you have any knowledge on the 2004/2005 issue I mentioned before? You seem to be quite knowledgeable in the area

I would look into European companies. Most us companies aren't going to offer products for that model.
Or you can measure the maf inlet and go from there.

U should Check out the e30 forum. Im pretty sure things under the hood of your e46 318i are likely to be the same as of e30.. 4 cylinders..

But what the hell do i know.. Haha

Uh... No. Not quite.
The e30 is a 20+ year old car. And most of them weren't 4 cylinders.

318 was updated in 2002 and stayed the same until 2005. That 04/05 was most likely an error on the website. They are the same from 2002 to 2005. BUT, the E90 model came in 2005 and was already available to buy in some parts of this world so they might be referring to E90 but I dont know.

K&N makes a kit for your car

http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com...-Induction-Kit

But to be honest, I wouldnt recommend any kit at all. All it is is a waste of money as none of those kits make any power or any power that would be worth the money. Some induction kits DO make power but they arent easily available/discontinued or unreliable .

Save that money on something you can actually see and appreciate, like maybe an Ipod interface , new shift knob, exterior paint repair etc.

Trust me , spend the money elsewhere

I appreciate everything you say about putting money towards other parts of the car, and I can see the merit in it. I think this will be the way I'll go. However, just out of interest, I can't see anywhere on the page you linked to that says that kit would be compatible with a 2004 318i. How do you know it actually fits?

Cheers!
