It's in reference to the Style Thread. The joke among the regulars was that we were the Young Men who Dress like Old Men. So that's what the thread title stands for.

I don't pay too much attention to the way people dress.

You will probably find this thread pretty boring, except for the catty, *****y comments from some of the regulars.

I was reading through it earlier, actually. Seems to be much like some of the other (watch, fashion, etc) threads.

Yeah, more or less. It sort of incorporates a bit of all of those.

If you wanted to go full out you could go with a pipe.

Looked very anachronistic

I think pipes are anachronistic enough that they're always going to look affected unless you're somebody's grandpa. I don't think I've ever seen a young guy smoking a pipe.

So I'm thinking I might take my son over to the mall and try to upgrade his wardrobe a bit. He's nine years old. My wife and daughter are out of town so it's my chance to impose my own personal biases on him without interference.

Yea the guy was mid 30's at most
Dark suit with white shirt, no tie
Walking down the street smoking a pipe
Looked like he was trying too hard

I've never smoked a pipe (or anything else, for that matter) but at least some pipe tobaccos smell good. So that might be one reason. But otherwise, I think you're right. It's like guys who wear pocket watches and go out of their way to bust them out to check the time when they think people might be looking.
