Thinking of pulling the head at 150k miles, what should I do?

Hey folks, could use a little guidance. Have read about the variuous head work options but not sure exactly what to do...

Car will be NA but there could be FI in the distant future.

Porting and polishing is prbably more than I want to go. Anyone do port matching or does that even apply? If one goes the route of port matching, are there any other known obstructions in the head that should be knocked down with the die grinder?

Can't seem to find much info on milling the head. Is anyone milling heads to increase compression versus just flattening the surface for a new head gasket?

I want to replace the cam too. Ideally I want to go with the street Schrick but want to leave it open to possibly going FI in the future and have the impression that the shrick might not be the best choice there. Thinking zhp cams.

What about the other bits and pieces (valves, guides, springs, timing chaine, chain guides, head gasket etc.)? Any reason not to stick with stock there for a mostly 90% street car? Going FI is only a 50-50 possibility at best.

Any other "while you're in there, you should also...." advice appreciated.

I've heard that the "step" from the head to the exhaust header actually makes power. Don't port match the exhaust.

You need to pick a direction. Much of what you mention might make sense NA but not with FI. For example, for a NA motor you would typically want 264/248 cams but for FI you would want 248/256. I don't think there's much room to increase compression by milling the head and even if you could pull this off on a NA motor, you definitely don't want to increase the CR with FI. At this stage of the game, if your head gasket is in good shape I honestly don't think I'd bother pulling the head. Once you decide whether the motor is going to be NA or FI, then it might make sense to swap cams and port/polish the head or take care of some other "while you're in there" kind of things.
