I was using a Gradient ND filter, but i don't think that's what caused the rays. I think that was luck.

hahaha funny story actually,

They broke in her car, "someone" sat on them.

I told her I'd be nice and buy her some new ones as long as they they weren't huge bug eye things.

^Looks like something I'll have to try making some time, a bunch of those would be great for a beach bonfire.

Anyone have any tricks for taking out banding like this?

you mean the moiré? try a different resolution otherwise its really hard to take these out i guess

Try resizing on steps of 1/20, so you're always landing on a number that ends in 5 or 0. I've found that when you get odd percentages (33%, 48%, etc) the moiré is at its worst.

When you resize an image with closely packed horizontal lines they can often come out as staggered patterns
