Tock172's Build Thread

About two weeks ago, after searching for several months for the right car, with the insurance money from my previous (now totaled) E46, I picked up my current 2004 330i. The car came with a large stack of maintenance receipts which detail most of the big maintenance items being taken care of, so I felt confident with my choice.

So, first things first, the specs:

2004 330i Sport Package
Steptronic
99k
Totally Stock

After going through all of my maintenance records, I created a spreadsheet which displays all the maintenance already done on the car, what it is going to be due for soon, and what is is due for at the moment. My initial confidence in the POs records was reinforced by the fact that currently, I only need to do VANOS Seals and O2 Sensors as preventative maintenance, and about $150 worth of routine maintenance/fluid changes. The day after purchasing the car, I purchased a set of stock sized Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires that matches the staggered wheels.

As of right now, my plans for the car remain relatively modest. I do plan on taking the car a to a few Autocross events, and perhaps some driving schools, but for the most part I plan on keepings things simple. I know in the long run I am considering an exhaust system and an intake of some sort, but for now I am going to get caught up on maintenance, and do a few small modifications here and there.

Now for the photos. I took these two weeks ago after I a few good hours detailing the car the day after purchasing it.

Earlier today, after verifying the condition of my current cabin air filter and engine air filter, I placed an order for the following items

6x OE NGK Spark Plugs
Bosch Charcoal Cabin Air Filter
K&N Drop-in Engine Air Filter
BMW Aux Cable
Khoalty Red/Clear/Red Tail Lights

I decided on the BMW aux cable for now instead of the bluetooth Mediabridge from Dice for the time being because I am currently without a job while going to college in AZ. I am tentatively planning on the purchasing the mediabridge this summer. A friend of mine who drives an E46 M3 has the mediabridge and an iPhone and is very happy with this combination. I feel I'd like to do the same because I also have an iPhone and like the idea of using the bluetooth to both talk on the phone and steam music.

That's it for now! I'd love to hear everyone's feedback, comments and suggestions on my plans/car.

Got some work done over the past few days. Earlier this week, I installed my new R/C/R tail lights, K&N drop-in filter, and a new charcoal cabin air filter. Today, my friend (who owns a gorgeous M3 with only 35k) and I both washed our cars and then installed my new spark plugs. Afterward we decided to pose and take some photos.

I am very happy with how the car is driving with new spark plugs and a new air filter. I think once I install my new fuel filter, it will be even better.

Here are the photos:

Other than having done some basic maintenance, like the changing the fuel filter and replacing some broken parts with factory replacements, not much is new. However I did recently attend Bimmerfest and a local BMW CCA Autocross, so I thought I would share some photos.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well my 330 performed, considering the automatic transmission. After my first few practice runs, I decided to be very careful and turn DSC all the way off. This resulted in shaving 7 seconds from my lap time!

Since my last post, I have added a black kidney grille from DDM tuning, which you can see above. Right now my plans for the car are still relatively modest because I haven't had the car all that long. It's going in for a detailing & inspection on tuesday, and following that I will be continuing to replace little things here and there, along with perhaps adding some angel eyes and clear corners & sides.

Shows you how far off the pace you were. 7 seconds probably covers AS to open class ya know.
