Finally... Got booked!
So I copped my first speeding ticket in Melbourne and I fear there's ALOT more to come from the same friggin camera.
Got done 107kmh in a 100 zone on the West Gate Freeway just after Millers road exit, where the signs are advising you of the next exit, there's a camera mounted up there, sneaky bastards!. As the fine went to my Sydney address, i dont have the paperwork, my dad gave me the obligation(??) number which I used to log onto a website, however, there's no picture of the car. In NSW, you can see the photo that was taken, wondering is there anyway I can do that here? Also considering its my first traffic fine here, I'm thinking of writing a excuse to get out of it, explaining I'm new in town and got confused with the freeway speed limits or what not, anyone else have a good excuse which may work? Now.. my brother who is a NSW piggy, tells me, the points don't carry over onto my NSW license but he is not 100% sure on that, can anyone confirm? I thought they did? I know if I don't pay the fine I still risk cancellation of my license due to unpaid fines however. I'm expecting alot more now, its the way I go to work in the morning and Ive been hooning the last 2 weeks through there

I suggest you cop the fine. Do the crime, do the time, don't weasel your way out for the sake of it. If you genuinely feel hard done by, then by all means...

When was your last traffic offence .. If it was more than 3 years ago you can get out of it generally. But your speed must be less than 10km/h above the limit which it was !
In VIC you must pay to see the photo .. |

I think fines from another state (Victoria in this case) accumulate points on your licence.

Wow, that camera is Visible from 500m away! And still apparently it brings in a lot of dough for a camera that can be seen.

I knoiw why to, been busy concentrating on the road because it had no tar on it, it was loose gravel for a while and cars in front would send little rocks flying everywhere, so theres me zooming left and right to get as far as I can getting clocked by that b1tch of a camera

Presuming you don't get more of them and you have no traffic infringements from the past 2 years, because it was a speeding offence under 10km over the limit you can request a review. You have to admit guilt and request a warning. Seems they've created a form for this now but I've just written a letter to the Officer in Charge in the past.

Buy a navman with all the camera locations confirmed - lots of them in Vic
It used to be $25 to receive the photo, likely is gone up

You can see the picture for free at Civic Compliance Victoria, 277 William St Melbourne, which is just outside the main entrance to Flagstaff station. Legend has it if there's more than one car in the picture, they send fines to both (or all) cars, so it's worth the visit.
I did as Netgun has described a few months ago, having had my first fine (105kmh) in over a decade. |

Here is a bit of a story or you guys
Coming onto the M3 (Eastern) FWY (Outbound) earlier today. Minimal Traffic ~2.00pm. In the RHL and see ahea that traffic in building up in this lane (WTF). Im on a slight incline and see the culprit. Its a VicPol marked Divisional Van!!! Anyway, I want to travel at at least 100km/h (but under 110), So decide to go to the 2nd (of 4) lane. unertake a few slow moving cars (who obviously are afraid of going any faster than this "cop"). I get into the 3rd land , next to the police officer and speed match him, I estimated his speed to be ~80km/h. As im next to this cop i decide to have a look. His on his own and his a Cnst. His also ON THE PHONE. (Thats why his going so slow because his not concerntrating on driving). I jump infront of him (cut him off a little just to let him know im there) and do the Fernando Alonso hand shake. He then moves over to left to the 3rd lane. In VIC its 2 demerit points for travelling in the RHL unlawfully. And 3 points for using a mobile. Many drivers also do not understand that when the transit lane is in operation (7am -930am weekdays) the next lane to the left becomes the OVERTAKING lane. Like the normal RHL is. SO at 710 am, when its not very congested .. MOVE THE F**K OVER, and let me past !!!!

LOL @ YGO!
Selien, if the alleged speed is 107, and given that the car speedos are set according to ADRs to show a higher speed than the actual speed by ~5-10% it is quite likely that your speedo reading was above 110kmh, probably around 112kmh or so. If your speedo reading was 107kmh then most likely you would have been around 102 or 103kmh actual speed. Sucks that you were pinged, especially under the circumstances of dodging VIC fanatics As knowledgeable VIC dwellers have suggested it may be worthwhile to write to the cops ![]() Good luck!

I never knew it was a ADR standard to show 5-10% more than what you are doing.
I've got the stock wheels/tyres on my car and my GPS says im doing 100 when my needle is at 102ish. Just had a read, ADR says its allowed to be up to 10% + 4kph so mine is fine. Also this is 10% over, not allowed to under read the speed. Last edited by Pants.On.Fire; 07-11-2012 at 10:00 PM. |
