If its on the front driver side its likely the expansion tank. Just pop the hood and look to verify.

If it is the expansion tank which is very likely then yes it is a leak... they tend to develop very fine cracks that expand when the engine heats up and cause the leaking symptoms u described... just pop the hood open and take a look and move the air filter box housing if necessary to get a better view

If I remember correctly my part was somewhere in the 50 dollar range and wasn't too difficult to install... just make sure to refill with the BMW coolant as most if the threads on this topic will mention

If its the expansion tank you can get one from ECS for 32 bucks but be prepared to pay over 100 from BMW. I would thoroughly check all of your hoses as well. My hose from the expansion tank to the waterpipe burst recently and left me stranded.

N B4 Mango...

You need to do a full cooling system refresh while you are at it. Buy the refresh kit from ECS tuning and PLEASE make sure to properly refill your system, research it many times before doing it, or you possibly overfill it.
