I ran 265 front and 295 rear on the last m3. That was a pretty potent combination, Arc8 9.5/10. This one has 245 and 285 and handles like complete dog crap, but that is probably also due to the current suspension setup. That will be remedied shortly.

most people will not notice the shortcomings of a staggered set up while driving even moderately hard in the street. Now, go to the track and take a 30 mm stagger and drive it REALLY hard ..nine tenths or 10 tenths effort and the fronts are going to get overpowered by the wider contact rears. Serious UNDER STEER is the result. If you are not experiencing under steer then you are not pushing the car hard enough yet. There are countless articles and threads on staggered tires and under steer. That is why a square set up is ideal for the track but not REALLY necessary for the street. Here is just a couple examples of the scores of material written about staggered tires on the track. Notice that not everyone experiences understeer because they are not yet the skill level where it will eventually become apparent. Or maybe the track they frequent doesnt have very many challenging curves/turns. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/for...r/14547/page1/ http://forums.themustangsource.com/f...rsteer-507310/ My first set of tires were 245/275 in 19 inch Bridgestone RE-01's (predecessor to famous RE-11's. They were almost the same really) which did very well on the track. ii drove them at Sebring and had a great time. maybe it was because i cheated by having some TOE OUT set on my fronts which helped combat under steer. I had been experiencing serious under steering at homestead track and I never understood until later. I did some homework. That's when i used the toe out on my fronts and the front anti sway bar trick (sotften your adjustable to full soft). Experiencing for the first time: four 18 inch DForce wheels and 265/35x18 BFG-R1 track tires...basically slicks of the SAME size on all four corners. What a difference. Never again the staggered street tires. Dont get me wrong. I had a lot of fun on the 245/275 set up. You can work around the under steer by adding toe OUT on the fronts. Also make sure your fronts are maybe running a couple psi lower so the sidewalls flex maybe a small amount. it really helps keep them planted on a hard turn. i also SOFTENED my front anti sway bar which helps with any under steer. I run it full stiff for the 265mm square set up. I can finally fit 275's in the front because i went from the really LOW KW's to a higher riding TC Kline coil overs.Quote:
Yes, do loose your current set up.

Anyone experience 265/35 and 285/35 combo? Maybe I should consider the 9.5 et35 Arc-8 wheel up front instead of an aggressive offset 22 to keep from running more neg camber w/a 265/35 tire.

You are also correct to stay away from crazy camber. i never felt I got any better lap times out of more camber. Your tires will last longer too! I am strictly a stock alignment guy. Stock settings are pretty aggressive when you realize them. The 265/285 combo is hard to beat. its not square, but you get the added benfit of the extra traction in your wide rear tires. Be aware that even a wide 265mm tire can still get plowed by a hard charging sticky set of 285's in the back. You will gain traction in the street more than if you ran 265's in the rear. For a staggered set up, you arent giving up much. I consider them to be an great combo. The F/R diameters work too! That set up In R888's would be VERY hard act to follow. You need to have more confidence driving those in the rain. I know that one rainy day a week on anything but hydro rain grooved tires really bothers you. Take a chance...LIVE. you would be Da MAN with those sizes in R888's. You could run the 285/30x18 at 24.8 inches diameter...OR the R888 comes in a YES!....7295/30x18 at 25.1 inches diameter. Your 265m is 25.4 inches. You are looking SO good! Either REAR is not going to be very hard to fit because they are NOT overly tall tires. That's good! Ask other r888 owners if one rainy day a week is a deal killer.

Bdave I can't wait till you drive your car with F/I...I have a feeling your opinions on tire setups will change by the minute

What rate in the rear? And what's your current ride height front and rear? 275/35/18 seems ideal for +600whp on the m3... If u push your car in the corners may have to modulate 2nd but atleast it can turn! |

For the inner fenders, bang away with a BFH the scrub points, spray paint, drive around with 4 people - repeat the process. It is best to have a rear strut brace installed to help ensure the suspension does not move when banging the inner fenders. Of course the fenders lips are rolled, no question.

Not even close enough to adequate traction for the power we make unless youre talking about the 555 drag radials. I was talking about the regular 555 street tires.

what would be a good tire setup for a set of ccw's specs:
18x9.5 +22 18x11 +25 my fronts were designed with a small lip and large backpad. Will clear bbk depending on what bbk brand |

You could probably get away with 255/35 or 265/35 up front with -2 to -3 camber. In the rear, 285/35 or 295. Definitely need fender work in the rear to fit.

Let's also keep in mind that the power you put down is ~600hp, I'm only putting down ~450hp, so do you think I'll be okay for the time being ?

I would still stay away. Get the nt05's. With your power youll love them. Also they're cheap as heck for Wat they r

Bought some Nitto NT05 for my OEM 19s for the mean time before I go to 18s. This will be sort of a trial and error for me to see how I like them. Went with 245/35 and 275/35 bc CW and yellowssm recommended going with a 35 sidewall tire.
Although, I won't be able to try them until after my journey back from Portland when I pick up my car from HPF.

have star specs mounted on apex wheels atm, but I have to replace the rears..going with r888's (thinking 295 or 305). Will that alter the balance on the street having two similar tires in properties yet different branded tires?
dont feel like shelling out $$$ for a set of fronts when not needed.

Star Specs are not (unless i'm mistaken) For 'street driving' you're fine. Its better to have a stickier tire in the rear than the front (if you have to have unmatched tires) in my opinion as I'd rather push a little than spin unintentionally.. not that either should happen so long as you don't drive like a maniac. ![]() Edit: FYI though.. R888's are not a general purpose tire.. unless you're putting down some serious horsepower and really really need it I would avoid that tire as a daily driver tire. They're going to wear fast, and in rain/etc they're pretty slick.. and they likely wont' heat up as fast as your Star Specs so you may have a loose rear end until their warm. Double Edit: I should also mention that a true r-compound tire generally does not give you much audible feedback. So if you're a guy who throws his car into corners and off/on ramps pretty aggressively and then waits for the squealing before easing up.. you're going to have a bad time as the tire won't make much if any noise before letting go.
