apparently i dont have to take a road test in NY if i take the course and meet some other prereqs that i've already met. it's a bit pricey ($350), but if it'll teach me skills that'll save my ass i figure it's worth the money

Yep, that works. I did it here in VA so I didn't have to take the road test either. I suggest it because it actually did teach me quite a bit, and you won't fail lol.

Do they provide 1 on 1 training? what makes it worth $350? location?

Yes, I think that the MSF course would be the best way to go. I helped two friends get their license this season. I taught them both some very basics of riding using bikes that they purchased. Then, they took the MSF course. Of course, they had their learners permit before this. If you're in NY, mike, I'll help in anyway that I can.

All the MSF courses in NY are that expensive unless you go to poughkeepsie, ny. I think it's about $275 there. It's cheaper in certain states... Especially one's that require you to take the MSF course like Texas.

Yep, here in Virginia I paid $160 for 2 day MSF. Some locations in VA are $150.

I've found a 2003 with 12,000 miles, 100% bone stock. Never been down, no scrapes or anything. Guy is asking $3,850 OBO. Says he hasn't ridden it in a while.

I'm going to go take a look at it today and see if he'll let me ride it, but if not- I'll just inspect the crap out of it and see what I'm willing to offer.

$3,000 opening offer. He'll say no most likely, then you guys will end up agreeing on $3,250

What he said. $3k, Argue that it wil prolly need a battery and fresh fluids maybe tires and chain too.
It might be mint and all but it's still 9 years old.

I've been looking into the basic MSF course for a friend of mine and they range from $220-275 here in South Florida.

MSF in SoCal is ~$250 ..

There are like 4 level of courses in PA

Damn, I think it must vary based on state requirements or not. Still worth $350 though.

Texas is hot, flat and filled with concrete. Loving the new job, still need to get a new scooter though. Haven't had time between work and riding my dad's SV.

This is only true for north Texas.

I paid $200 bucks for a 2 day MSF course here in N.Texas 2 years ago or so. Included all the testing as well.

come visit in austin, and I will prove it.

The MSF course is $125 here in WA. Once you complete the course you just got to the DOL, show the your completion certificate and you get your endorsement.
That's what my so is going to do later this month.

I thought about doing the msf course, but instead did it for free at the DMV and passed easily.

Some states now require new riders who want the motorcycle endorsement to take the MSF course, regardless of age.

Smart states.
