woohoo - now my top goes up and down with remote
![]() My parking lights also flash when I lock and unlock doors with remote ![]() When putting it down, the windows go down half way, then the top goes down, then the windows go up all the way. It does the same thing when using the key in the drivers door. I guess BMW thinks you should drive with the top down and the windows up? |

If you let off and then hold unlock again the windows should go down.

dknightd,
What did you do to get the new functions? Was it a software or hardware change? |

dknightd,
Thanks. I just ordered that last week. Im glad that the change to the car is primarily software. Now I just need to find an old laptop in the closet and get a machine running with XP. |

This may be a more personal thing, as I've been putting the top up and down with the key in the door for 10 years now. Just replaced the OEM battery last summer.
So for me, at least, this action caused no harm to the battery whatsoever. |

Works on my 2000
It works on my 2000 323 Ci. I believe it is even in my owners manual if I remember correctly.

My 2006 has this feature and I'm sure it was always a feature on the car because the previous only owner was a elderly doctor who I know didn't perform any mods on the vehicle.

Does anyone know where I can get my car coded to do all these things? Last BMW software update took all these cool features away :0(

My 2004 325Cic has that feature too. Totally bone-stock, no special programming required.
its amazing what you can find in your owners manual. This feature is in there (along with valet-mode setting with the glove box/trunk, turn signal lever down leaves turn signal on after parking, adaptive headlights move with your steering, headrests move up/down with seat setting controls,....)

Kukan,
Don't pay attention to all the people rubbing it in that their model has the feature as default. You are on the right track with an 02. I had to program the feature (or more accurate a fellow member helped me program) on my 03. I'm sure there is someone on the site near you that can help. If not and you ever get to the Albany Ny area I'm sure you could get it done for a beer or two ![]() On a side note, the remotes are not that strong and the button has to be held for the top to lower or raise. I found the feature to be very flakey and I had to be real close to the vehicle to get the top to open. Still a cool effect. |

@ The Thomas J:
Euro Flashers are just our hazard lights at a double speed (as they are in Europe). Instead of the standard 'blink - blink - blink' we have in the US; Euro Flashers go 'blink blink - blink blink - blink blink'. Look for a video of this on YouTube. Follow Me Home is a feature on our E46s that turn on the cars exterior lights for a pre-set time when the high beams are tapped (key off - engine off). That way the cars headlights, fog lights, rear lights, etc. light the way to your home as you walk away from the vehicle. These feature & more can be coded by using NCS Expert.

Couple of thoughts on this. For me, neither the car battery nor the key fob battery has been damaged at all by raising/lowering the top without the engine running. Replaced my oem battery last year after 9 1/2 years, and I would say I probably use the key for this 75% of the time. Also, it seems like cars come set up in very different ways, whether done at the factory or at the dealer, I don't know which. Currently, my top cannot be opened by the method mentioned here. Unlocking with the fob unlocks both doors are once on both keys. And - and this is a bonus, as far as I'm concerned - my car does not make any audible noises if I fail to put the set belt on. Just a light on the dash comes on. Also - personal seat & mirror settings are per key, and with two key fobs, I think that gives me six different personal settings. Last also - my auto temperature setting comes in two versions - one for top up, one for top down. I'm sure that's not unique, but I haven't noticed anyone else mentioning this.
