Transmission Warning Light

I joined this forum hoping someone had the same problem and has a solution to help me out. I have a 2003 330I SPORTS PACKAGE with just over 100,000 miles. Let me be clear there are is no other light present but the transmission light, the car is running on limp mode and the steptronic is not working. Ive taken it to BMW dealer and AAMCO the dealer recommended a new tranny and AAMCO wanted to do a rebuilld. The only thing they've told me from the diagnostic is that the ATF fluid is burnt and the car is stuck on 4th gear. The car takes a while to pick up speed in stop and go traffic but once it gets going its fine. Any ideas?

If the fluid is burn- then obvious your tranny is toast. If you looking on what try- then change the fluid and see what happens.

Your transmission is not good anymore. If you love your car swap into manual, if not sell it and change to another brand. Bmw are freaking expensive to maintain, but have the best driving feeling.

Weird thing happen today, my mechanic unplugged the maf then plug it back in and did a reset. The transmission warning light went out, it usually doesn't go out when he reset it been driving with it for about 6 months now. Got my fingers crossed hope i don't see that light soon.
