well if it's like the color offered in 2000 for Coupes it could be #314 Bright Red

(and yes that is the name bmw gave it, not joking around)

you could always have someone run your VIN at the dealership like Southpaw use to do. there are a few threads where some guys would do it, that'll tell you what it was from the factory.

Pretty sure bright red was also called "Hellrot" which is what my color i.d says on my strut tower. It was offered on prefacelift only. Looks like you've got it.

I was really hoping you wouldn't post photos, OP, as I thought it would make for a great thread idea.

Could you start a new thread, something like, 'what color is my bumper?' but not post a photo. If the guys haze you, just play along...could be fun.

Search for my thread on rear bumper painting...I posted a link to a place that sells paint...enter your year and model and you'll find every red bmw did that year/model.

If there isn't a badge on your strut tower, then look behind and below headlight on the front wheel well.

Also, for my color, there is a 3-digit code that can be important. BMW made two Fern Green Metallics--different codes--similar but not the same.

Put your VIN in here:
http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/

It's either Hellrot (314) or Japan rot (438). I have an E36 M3 in Hellrot, and my 330ci is Japan rot. They're close enough that you can't tell the difference in different pictures. Japan rot is a little more muted and has a little more yellow in it. Hellrot is slightly deeper and a little brighter.

Japan rot:

Hellrot:

Pictures were obviously taken in different lighting, at different camera settings, and the E36 one had post processing. But if you saw one, or the other out of context, you wouldn't be able to tell which color it was.
