I agree that VIN would tell you that but from the pics I just don't see enough orange in the paint... respray maybe? Hellrot is the red in the middle, Imola for the other two red cars

You mean like this?

Agreed that it doesn't look like Hellrot (i'm familiar with the color, my E36 M3 is hellrot). But depending on the cell phone/camera used to take the picture, and the lighting conditions, it could very well be hellrot.

Though a respray is certainly possible.

Hell means "light" in german

Rot means "red" in german

Combined into hellrot and the direct translation is "bright red"

So the color is Hellrot not "hellrot red". And it's prononced more like "rote" for those who don't speak german

It drives me nuts when people refer to there color as "Hell Rot red" like it's a badass name... it's not, it's just a very plain and literal (German's have a knack for that) name for the color.

^ agreed, I understand camera makes a huge difference plus that pic you posted looks more like hellrot.

OP, can you please take a pic next to a known red colored car so we can figure out what your car is. ATM I'm betting on electric or Japan red assuming it's a real BMW color.

Umm..we already figured out what it is. I posted it earlier. BMW #314 BRIGHT RED or in German it's called HELLROT. not to be confused with the later Hellrot II

Good info. So what does "Japan" mean in German?
