e46 top removal for replacing soft top wiring loom diy?

Ive searched hard for this but cant seem to find any clear step by step articles. The wiring around the passenger side (UK) where the soft top closes has a habit of snapping around the bend, causing the soft top to stop working, how can this $150 dollar part be replaced? Does the hood system need to be completely removed? Where do i start... any help would be most appreciated...

Also i cant keep resoldering those wires its just not good enough... and the last time i soldered it its left me with a flashing red light on the soft top button...so im opening/closing it manaually all the time. Any ideas why this could be? if after resoldering those wires the red light still blinks? did i short something? Any helps appreciated, cheers.
