It's amazing to me that a non M E46 is such a beautiful car but the E46 M has never done much for me.

Here is a good resource:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/tech.../tech_main.htm

Here is a good suplimentry thread:
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...ghlight=clutch

I'd check the slave cyl/oil level, then dig in and start removing parts. 75% chance whatever it is will involve dropping the transmission anyway.

Lol funny you posted that link, thats the only one i found to show info on a DIY. However, it is not on an M3, are they the same as far as the process and everything? Or are there possibly differences? Thanks for your reply.

Does the M3 have a CDV? It took me awhile to get used to the CDV my first e46 had it deleted. While driving hold your c pedal down for a coont hair longer see if it pops in smoother. I thought the mechanics botched up a brand new clutch. Then my friend mentioned i have the CDV. HMMM??? changed my driving style a bit and boom. no notchy shifter, no forceful engagements. just a bit more patience. from then on i decided i like driving my car a bit mre since I'm never in a hurry.

Its def not the CDV, there is in fact some type of mechanical failure. Actually, i was recently researching about the CDV delete thinking that might have helped my knotchy shifting, but now the car is not driveable at all so something definatly gave out on me yesterday. Just not sure what it is, yet.

It's just like any other manual car. I replaced it on my smg myself without a lift in just a few hours. If the shop knows what it is doing, 4 hours of labor seems like an awesome deal if you don't want to do it.

All you need to remove is the exhaust, heatshield, driveshaft and then 9 torx bolts(e12,e14,e16. one of them isnt used but might aswell get all of them than be without one)
Remove electrical connections and the slave cylinder(2 nuts) and you pull back the tranny and inspect the mayhem.
Most likely you'll find nothing worng but since you're there and you dunno what the problem is just replace everything since they are wear&tear parts.
remember to replace the flywheel aswell if it hasnt been replaced in the last 90k miles

I have a guy putting in a new clutch kit and rear main seal, new fluid for $850, Christian brothers quoted me 1400 and a eurotypes shop said 1200, BMW said 1600
